I was going to get my oil done at the tire shop when I got my new tires put on but they said it required synthetic? WTF its just a regualr 6L chev engine?? Any info would be good (i.e what to use)

Just my input...... I always run synthetic as it can double the life of the engine!



I use Mobil 1 and love it - I put AMSoil in change before last and it's incredible stuff - just a pain to get. I will continue to use AMSoil when I order all fluids (I'm all synthetic) and use Mobil 1 in between. I change out all fluids annually and 5k engine oil faithfully..... well worth it in the end especially if you plan on keeping for a long time.

I switched my H2 over to Amsoil and it runs so buttery smooth... Did the diffs, tranny, transfer case and engine oil. Also with the Amsoil you can (the manufacturer claims anyway) run extended drain intervals so if you run a lot of miles the Amsoil can save you money because you're doing fewer oil changes! I was running Mobil 1 in my H3 when I had it but overall I'd say I have good experiences with the Amsoil, the vehicle really does run noticeably smoother so I've moved away from the Mobil 1 for now..



It's a hard topic because there isn't much 'scientific' data available for consumers regarding engine oil, but suffice to say, in my opinion you'd be just fine with any name brand oil! My girlfriend's old car had well over 300,000kms and the engine ran super strong, the rest of the car was falling apart but the engine seemed like it had tons of life in it and it never saw a drop of synthetic oil. Just regular oil changes on cheap-o oil!!

I do use synthetic for all fluids but as stated it is not 100% needed, It is for sure a drivers preference. Also a good oil filter too, I use K7N oil filters. But as JL said, I have had cars and trucks with regular Canadian Tire Oil and regular filters run just fine for years and years as long as you change it regularly.





It is up to you, if you want to give your truck a treat, change diff oils, tranny oil, transfer case, and power steering all over to synthetic and do a good oil change with synthetic also. I use Royal Purple for all mine in the H2 except for Engine, that is Castrol Syntec 5W-30, every 7K
