Insurance

Post by thedub »

I had a chat with my insurance guy this morning, now I'm just a bit pissed!

the rates are still going up in the GTA, anywhere between 5 and 20% with no real sign of them going down anytime soon.

what really got me is that if I lived in Milton, Oakville or Georgetown I save almost 30% on my truck insurance!!

I live about 1.5Km from the Oakville border!

I need my licence for my job so I don't dick around, I have never had an accident, points or anything that would end up costing me more to drive; but now we are all paying for bad drivers who have no business being on the road even in a F*#^ing rickshaw why should I pay because of other peoples bad habits?

Back in Ireland, bad drivers and young drivers have a black box GPS installed in their cars by the insurance companies to keep track of what they do and where they go, drive fast or you spend your time in a high risk area and your rates go up thanks to that little black box., you don't want the box no problem, thats 6000 Euro a year just for the basic cover ($9000CDN) or find another company!

I have held drivers licence's in Ireland, the UK, Norway, Germany, Russia, France along with a few others and now here in Canada. But I still have to wonder how the hell some people here got theirs???

We all drive HUMMERS and like it or not we stand out more than any other car/truck on the road, maybe thats why we are better drivers, I have seen lots of HUMMERS letting people out of spaces, side streets, etc where every other driver just keeps going whats wrong with being nice, most of these clowns think that the 10 seconds spent doing the right thing will kill them???Our trucks are expensive and while we play of road with them we still look after them on the road... I am 40 years old, I have never been in trouble with the police, I have my own business, I'm going bald, I have a wife, 2 kids and a house in a good area.... I am not some spotty faced boy racer in a low rider or some Muppet that does not know the rules of the road and thinks I own the damn thing!!!

Until we start reporting bad drivers nothing will change, I have a dash cam in my truck that I hook up to my computer. I don't know if it is possible over here to send a video of a bad driver to the police but I sure as hell would love to do it, then maybe, just maybe if enough of us did this; it might make a difference to not only the cost we pay but also for the endless contestants we see every day for Canada's worst driver!!

OK thats the end of my

Just because I drive a HUMMER don't mean I don't care about the planet.... in fact it means I can get to most parts without any help!

You are so right with everything you say though. I used to be a technician on the road, for 20 years, I have seen unbelievable drivers. One of the best I remember, was in Niagara Falls following a slow, swerving, driver who randomly stopped in the middle of the road. Then, it got better.... the guy pulled a very poorly done U-Turn (then changed his mind) at the top of Clifton Hill. Now anyone who has been to the Falls knows what chaos takes place at the top of Clifton Hill in the summer time with all the tourists. Anyway, when this guy turned enough to see him, he was driving the van via the view finder on his camcorder!!!! This was the old style that you had to hold up to your eye to look though. So instead of looking out the windshield, he was looking where he was going while filming... the worst part was, he HAD PASSENGERS!!!! that could have been doing that for him.

The people you see on Canada's Worst Driver, I think most of them should be traced back to who passed them on their road test, then that person should be terminated.

everything said is true

This is why shopping around is a must

I use to pay around 1200 a yr for my H3 2006, when I upgrade to my H3 2009 it went up 1500. if my son 25yrs old whould have bought the same vehicle his premium would have doubled mine. for him, Reason: young driver mostly and 2 speed tickets, then the other reasons not related to my son would be: lots of material damages incident and theft mostly theft.

So yes, bad drivers are responsible in part for the efty premium, but also we are owner of very sought for vehicle, and more they are steeling, higher the premium to insure them will be.

The H2 2003, 2004 and 2006 makes the 8, 9 and 10th position on the MOST stolen vehicle in Canada in 2010 according to the Insurance Bureau of Canada.

In ontario alone H2 2004 and 2003 take 8 and 9th position of the top 10 in the most stolen car cathegory.

The H2 2003-2004 were 8 and 10th in 2009 most stolen. With that reputation, its hard to get a low premium

When I got my Alpha 2010, I was expecting a efty increase, the Broker even asked me if I was sitting down before he told me the price of the new premium. Well the new premium was 625$ alldress coverage. I asked why.. reason: no statistic ( in canada ) for a Hummer H3 2010 since none were produce for north of the border or very so few. The broker had verified 4 times with supervisor, director , insurer it self and all came out at this price. I asked her if I was ripped off with my previous vehicles with premium of 1200 and 1500. Answer: Nop,, major statistic at the insurance bureau of Canada on H3, H2, all yrs, for theft and material dammages. Worst in big city area. But nothing for the 2010.

Ill skip the tips to reduce premium, ill just mention the most obvious one , Shop around, and deal with a broker that deal with many insurer, not only one.

My guy is great, he does get me the best deal, what he did tell me is that at least 1 insurer has "off the record" said don't bother asking for quotes in the GTA.

all my guy wants is for the price to at least stay still; not go up!!

The "no fault" deal over here is BS, if you had at fault insurance then that would change things. a perfect example of it happened to my Dad years back;

A total of 9 cars all rear ended each other and my Dad was almost last in line, he made a split second jump to the pavement and whacked a tree. about 300 in damage; if he had been the last car in the line he would pick up the whole tab for everyones car in front and injuries and you just know that they would have all had every family member in the car all suffering with whiplash!!

Rules of the road; for every 10Kms speed, keep 20 feet between you and the guy in front, in the rain ad at least 50% in the snow double it; I can still hear that from my very first instructor.

all to often I see rear ended crashes on the road, and the clown behind is usually giving out to the guy in front!!! HELLLOOOOOOO if you left enough of a gap you MUPPET the you wouldn't have run up his ass in the first place???

I had a guy last week pull in on top of me, when we got to the lights I told him to wake up, he said he didn't see me!! SERIOUSLY.... its a yellow H2!!!! how could you not see it, stevie wonder can see this thing! (and no I wasn't in his blind spot, my front wheel was right at his passenger door)

Gadgets is right, the testers should be hauled over the coals for some of the clowns on the road. I wonder if you could cross check bad drivers against who tested them??? now that would be some interesting reading!

Im on the hunt right now for anything better then what i got. Reason 1 is, my ins company is really ticking me off, really hard to work with. 2nd they promise one thing, and do another (my rates began going up halfway through my term because they made a "mistake") . ive done everything they ever wanted to help "discount" my rate. (driving school, a bunch of save driving courses, etc) Never been pulled over, no tickets, nothin, clean clean clean..

Long story short. I drive 3km a day to work and back. Thats it, i dont really go anywhere, or go to many outings. Maybe a short trip 3 times a year up north, but thats about it.

Maximum 1500km a year total over both of my vehicles.

Now you would think that because of my low yearly mileage, they could give me a special plan or something. NOPE!. Also because i have 2 vehicles currently on the road (car and h1 in summer, h1 in winter) they could give me a decent multi vehicle discount. Like really how could i drive both at the same time. My parents both have their own vehicles as well... NOPE!

And when you go in to discuss, its like talking to a wall.

I just cant stand paying for something, when i get no return out of it. I also like how they promise that your rates will "Dramatically" go down once i turn 25. Well after doing a bit of research, it only goes down by like 80$ a year. Woo. 80$ of too much is still too much.

Plus if you were ever in a accident, even if it wasn’t your fault the adjuster will find out some way to cost you. Another reason why i have a in car DVR, is something happens and i didnt cause it, bring it on!

Im tempted to take my cars off the road, and drive the tractor to work with a slow moving sign. lol
