OK wife is driving the hummer merging and she heres a "clunk" .... then a kilometer down the road it kicks down a gear and revs high .... she pulls over and trys to go again and it wont move ... So after work I went and checked it out and it shifts fine rolls back fine and goes in reverse fine but when you go to go forward something is binding holding it back... almost like the brakes were stuck on even flooring it it struggles to move forward ... any ideas? driveshafts all look fine ( but Im no mechanic ) no big leaks or anything ??

Any clue ?? my tow is going to cost me a fortune <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... adbang.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':headbang:' /> Hopefully it doesnt get vandlized tonight <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':unsure:' />

Sounds like a T-Case problem.

Sounds like the T-Case to me to... did you try switching into 4 high to see if that makes a difference?

What gear are you in? Try..4 Lo lock...and see if you still have an issue...and then shift back to normal...maybe the button got hit in error?

Does your H2 have alot of mileage? I don't think it would be the transfer case. You could have a couple of possibilites;

1. Park Brake lining fell off the backing and is jamming between the drum and the remaining backing, this would explain why you can go backward but not forward. I have already seen this a couple of times on a variety of vehicles. Quick way to check, with the engine off and tranny in neutral, try and physically push the truck backwards, you should hear some rubbing. Then try and push it forward, if you feel the truck lock right away and hear a clunk then you probably found your problem.

2. While unlikely you could have broken something in the transmission, however if this is the case you would see it in the oil, metal particles or clutch material since you kept rolling after the sound.

I don't think it could be the transfer case, since normally it is the chain that breaks, but then you would hear some serious noise from under the truck and your truck would be completely in neutral and you would have to use your park brake to make sure that the truck wouldn't roll, so I really doubt it would be that.

Keep us posted,

I have a shitty warrenty that i bought with the truck in may but the mechanic says they might give me a hard time because I havent been to great with the engine oil changes ... ( WTF do those have in common) anyways I guess Im in a waiting game ... Isnt Reverse the first gear to go when your out of Tranny oil? all the gears were working great !

Are you sure you didn't have a massive oil leak under the truck? If there is no oil in the tranny, is the more oil in the radiator, that is one place your oil could be going.

Normally low oil levels will kill overdrive first. And most of the time trannies normal default to 2nd when there is a problem.
