As most of you know, I'm from Ireland and looking at the weather back home this morning via the internet I wish I was there. The link below it to the national TV station and I know all the places shown very well. In an event like this regardless of where you are in the world your thoughts do return home, wherever that is.



Hummers for hope is at present just in the US (that’s what I have found so far, I could be wrong) right now I wish I had my hummer back home.

I always laugh when the weather network and various friends in Ontario panic because we are due 20mm of rain, I always tell them "when you measure it in feet, then call me" the link will show you what I mean. This is not unusual rainfall, depending on where you are in Ireland but it gives you the idea of why I laugh at the 20mm thing.

Seeing how the weather is changing all over the world and close to home (I mean Canada folks, because this is my home now <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... SMILEY.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> and the last few years of crazy weather we are having I figured that maybe the CHC could look at introducing the Hummers for hope here?



Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Wow, see what you mean! As bad as that is, you have to laugh at that lit up street road sign about Dundrum. Then there is the cemetary <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':blink:' /> .



It would be interesting to see what it would take to get HOPE running here, or something similar.

the Dundrum one is common, you can pay to have just about anything put up one of those <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ey-013.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wtf:' /> for a laugh!

I lived in an area called duhallow in county cork for a few years. in a 6 month period during 06-07 we had 1,000,000 gallons of rain per ACRE <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... on_eek.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':shock:' />



The Hummers for hope is something that can let us give back and promote us in a great way..... and lets face it; the idea of heading into something that others run from is always a rush.

I would for sure do that but we need a corporate sponsor for this..We have approached Canadian Red Cross in the past, twice and they had no interest..btw the American Red Cross stopped supporting the HOPE program in the US I believe more then 3 years ago.. THCI was looking for another group to support this program, I do not believe they had found anyone..but I will confirm..



If anyone has a contact within the Canadian Red Cross executive team, We would be happy to approach them again....

Why did they stop supporting the HOPE program? And why do we need a corporate sponsor? What does the sponsor do in this program. I can't believe the state of things today, where agencies turn down trained volunteers, especially in the US who have had their asses kicked by mother nature big time for past several years. A corporate sponsor assists in two ways, first of all for funding, there needs to be funding all meetings, travelling, gear, etc all costs money, we need to be organized and together, not just a bunch of rogue guys out there. We need to make sure all the volunteers have "training" in one fashion or another to not hurt themselves or others, our trucks are a tool, but we are the operators, so we need to know how to use this tool properly. So we need backing for this and to assist with getting the help we need to make it all happen Nationally.



As to why did they stop, I truly was not privy to all the details but it was an Agreement I believe between GM, Red Cross and THCI, and again I may not be exactly correct. I do know they were looking for another charity to connect with but I did not hear of one. As for HOPE members in Canada, and again I may not be exactly correct but as far as I know, there were only 3 true fully qualified HOPE members in Canada, Tony, Roy and Myself as it takes more then just saying we are here to help, there is a liability aspect to it and some trail certifications we needed to cover, some first aid, and of course we had to signup and pay a regular fee and keep our training and courses up to date.



So I am willing to work with others on this but we will require to be organized...when we are organized, trained, and together, we can for sure assist everyone!

as you know the ins and outs of whats required on the overall aspects of a commitment to a program like this, maybe a brief outline to explain it and with that information prople could show interest in moving forward?

The subject was discussed here before in a few topic on the forum , HOPE Trail Certification, RED Cross HOPE Info , and HOPE PROGRAM in Canada



For sure it would be great to have such a program here. But it would also mean that we really need to get together and get involve. meaning giving a minimum hours to the program each month, continuous training and certification, appearing to specialized and popular events. Basically same thing as if you are part of a brigade for the Red Cross or St John's Ambulance. The liability aspect would be covered by the association, the association would need founding to cover cost of anything needed. Equipment wise it could be the responsibility of the member. ( first aid kit, recovery equipment and survival kit that sort of stuff) if any specialized equipment is needed for special event or crisis it could always be supplied by the association on a "per situation requirement" on a temporary loan to the team in the field.

I could always renew my First AID instructor certification with St John's or Red Cross
