Well it is that time of year, Christmas lights have been starting to show up in the evenings and the holiday season is in the air! Time to start discussing our annual meet & greet!
Any ideas? Also what dates work for people, is Dec 17th good for everybody?
For anybody new this year, to give you a basic run down we typically meet up in the afternoon and do a backroads trip out somewhere to have dinner. It isn't so much an off-road trip and just a chance to get together and hang out. The past two years we have done some interesting trips out through spray lakes and popped out behind Canmore. Usually we have a couple of unscheduled stops along the way; Dave either has to suddenly stop to go take pictures of deer or bigfoots, that or he gets pulled over by police chicks and questioned about his good looks (you think I am joking, don't you). It is always a lot of fun, plus it is the one trip we do where I can usually bring my wife along to hang out too.

Definitely liking that idea! If we can drive the Powderface trail I think that'd be a great trip, although it closes some time in December (I think December 1 actually...) until May so might not be possible...
It's a great road though, it spits you out on Sibbald Creek trail which is what we took last year to the Smith Dorian/Spray Lake trail... I drove a ton of back roads this Summer and the Powderface was really the standout so if it's open I think we gotta check that out!!
Lemme see if I can recall a few other nice drives that don't have seasonal closures... I did the Highwood pass in K country which is another really nice drive but with seasonal closure. The highest elevation paved pass in all of Canada and a really nice drive!! You also get to experience the WORST paved road conditions I have ever seen on the way home, road completely sunken in and rather than repair the road they've installed TRAFFIC LIGHTS so people can take turns driving around!!! Unbelievable but good for a larf...[/quote]

Powderface is one of my favorite roads but doesn't really go anywhere except hook the back end of Bragg creek to the sibbald creek trail... Awesome drive though! It's open to the 15th ofndecember as long as they didn't change anything..
I suggested the road ending up at the pub in water valley, but true enough I have never been in it yet and I guess B-Man was saying its a little shady in there....

Not a loop but like I say, it does spit you out on Sibbald Creek trail which is what we drove last year to get to Spray Lake trail, so it'll take you to Canmore!

I'd be down with that!

What we can do then is start out in cochrane as we always do.... Head to Bragg creek from there.. The h2's can gas up again

.... Go the back way driving by McLean creek, we could stop at elbow falls for some scenery.... From there take the powderface to sibbaldcreek trail which then takes us to 40.
Head south of 40 taking the same route as last year coming the back way into Canmore. Have a bite to eat and a beverage at BP's or somewhere similar. That same one as last year actually was not as busy and lots of parking...
Oh yeah, we'd have to do it on the tenth though..

It sounds like a walk in the park. I'm good with this. Sometimes, it's just nice to get out there and explore without having to do much in the way of strenuous offroading. Not that I'm proposing we have a meet at West Edmonton Mall or Chinook to go shopping for purses, but I do like the idea of just driving down some backroads with the goal of making it to a pub or something for dinner and/or a drink. <img src='

It totally is.... I just said that as I usually don't like doing anything on a Sunday in case a recovery is needed...
This is a nice scenic "Christmas" drive so really just to get together and enjoy one's company - see some sights and have a few laughs at the end of the day. Swapping stories over a pint at the pub is ALOT of fun! Not getting mushy but it's fun at times just to hang with the guys!
