AMG Lays off 350

Post by GreenMeanie »

Not so good times ahead!!! This is very distressing news for us in the Hummer world.

The layoff of Dan and about 350 others at AMG has pretty much sealed the demise of the company long term i think and it looks pretty clear like the end of years of support from the company for us. The end of an era!!

Who knows for sure what this all means but it is troubling to say the least!!!

AMG is down to less than 2000 employees nation wide and i sense there is a real danger that this could be near the end for the company that is operating at about 10 percent capacity at this time. The laws of economics will soon come to bear in my opinion and the writing is on the wall.

I have big questions about parts in the chain and the effect on parts costs in the longer term.

Also got to wonder what will happen to the Homecoming events and the AMG guys that show up to support us.

It could be those days are over and will be valuable memories.

For me i find it very sad to witness the struggle and potential demise of a great American company and all its great employees. They have done so much for all of us in so many ways directly and indirectly.

My heart goes out to Dan Collins and all of AMG and i wish Dan the very best at whatever he does.

I was in contact with AMG last week when this happened, in the civilian area, there was Dan and one other person very close to our group that was let go.. but I have been assured from my contacts that we will continue to get their support moving forward...and I will make sure they stick to it...As for events, we are still working with them for our event schedule for 2012 and I have been assured that this will proceed..and as for parts.. well they have a very extensive Military contract for parts and I believe a few things up their sleeves for the civilian model, time will tell for sure.

Hate to hear about people getting laid off especially those from AMG because I know they LOVE HUMMERS and would have stayed if given the chance...hopefully the future turns out brighter for these gentlemen, AMG and the Hummer brand in general...!!!!

it seems very sad to see what happend...reminds me of studdebekker times - where brand just got in memories ...i strongly beleive thre should be an interest in moving the entire plant in different direction , I just hope it will land in HUMMER interest, I actually beleive the small plants like AMG have more chance to survive than big company plants like GM or Chrysler ,they should have a marketing restructure and cash injection to bring the entire company to new level, whats wrong being an exotic vehicle brand, like Ferrari or Porcshe? - I would be gearing towards specialty vehicle brand and would align with some strong partner
