AB: TransAlta Road Trek (JAN 14)

Post by Sugarphreak »

So this will be a pretty easy run. The TransAlta road is actually a service road with a little section at the end that opens in the winter when the water freezes up a bit. It is a particularly scenic route (or so I have heard) and should offer some areas to play around in the snow along the way.

Anyway, here is the map:

Image

Trek Truck Requirements:

-Front & Rear Tow Points

-30" (or larger) MT or AT tires w/ good tread

-Full tank of gas

-FRS Radio (channel 2)

-Good Working Condition!

Other Requirements:

-Enough food & water for you & all passengers for 24hrs

-Suitable clothes for prolonged exposure in cold weather

-Extra clothes & food

-Paper Towel / Toilet Paper

Recommended Equipment:

-Compressor

-Tire Gauge

-Jack

-Tools

-Spare Fluids & Parts

If you plan on coming, please post up!

That sucks, although I am thinking the Feb run will be something a little more challanging.... like the Falls!

Basically where highway 40 turns to gravel, we turn left... instead of going right. Then go for a long ways until we get to the transalta road.

Going by Nick's map looks like about 60km from Cochrane to the start of the winter trail, then probably 15-20km of trail?

I'm almost thinking we may need a 2nd destination to make it a full day, as the drive looks fairly tame? Time permitting it might be fun the check out these little sections since personally I don't think I've ever been here?

No, I don't think that is the area JL

The big circle is where you think we are... the line is the actual route

If you go back and look at the original map in the very first post, there are some little off-chutes we can check out... although I've heard some of them are extra hilly.
