Very technical question

Would it be possible to remove stock diesel engine in my H1 and put, let's say, a smaller engine that would turn a generator? This generator would then drive an electric motor!
Crazy idea or not?

Its a shame that Raser couldn't get the HUMMER and put their Prototype into production.
Same off road capability as original. The only thing i was wondering was, do we have to stay away of deep water??
But for fuel economy wow that would have been a major improvement from 20 mpg to 100 mpg there was no arguing there.

Actually AMG tried an Electric "Hummer" to replace the Hummvee it had 4 electric motors in 1 each hub

That's something I would like to do. Still researching with motors that could go underwater!
The way I see it, is that I could have 1 motor connected to T/C or 4 motors (1 each wheel). The problem with 4 motors is I would need feedback to make sure one doesn't go faster than the other which brings up pricing quite a bit!

I THINK SOLAR PANELS ON THE WAGON SHOULD COMPLIMENT THE POWER FOR BIG ELECTRIC MOTOR WITH CRAZY BATTERIES IN THE TRUNK.
I KNOW FOR SURE IF YOU HAVE A GASSER H1 TODAY BY PUTTING PROPANE KIT CONVERSION YOU CAN RUN VERY CHEAP MILEAGE AT 60C/LITRE FOR PROPANE VERSUS DIESEL

You would need a football field worth of solar panels to move a Hummer more than a foot or so.
I have been contemplating this for some time and have a few ideas.
First,i would try not to change the existing drive train too much and use the electric as an augment for acceleration and braking.
The best location for this in my opinion is the drive shafts.
Imagine redesigning the drive shaft into a series of motors or inducting coils that use the drive shaft length as the rotational part of the motor. On an h1 some exhaust and fuel tank changes would need to take place to make room for the coils which are 6" round with a one inch shaft.The fixed part of the coil in the shell attached to the frame allows the armature/drivshaft to turn freely under regular diesel power. The motor can be used in 3 ways.
As a forward quick acceleration using PWM controller using onboard battery power. This would be used to take off from a stop or to pass on the freeway as an example.
As a electric brake by applying reverse polarity from the PWM and the onboard battery. This would extend the life of your mechanical pads by years by using the eletric for the hard braking.
As a charging voltage for charging on board batteries at fixed highway speeds to augment the alternator.
None of the above would impede regular diesel operation in any way and could be simply switched off if not needed.
Other ideas include adapting a starter motor in to the mix. If any of you have ever defeated the nuetral safety switch on your shifter and started the vehicle in drive you will know what i mean. Holy torque!!
