red light on 4x4 indicator

on my 4x4 selector system..there are times that it will go on the Red Light..then when i press the 4x4 button..the yellow light will come on..What can be going on with this system..Its an 07 Hummer h2 SUV...
When People are Running out of a Burning Building..I am usually the one Running In...
