I am wondering about Snatch Blocks. Knowing they can double the capacity of a winch, how do you determine what load rating to get. Do you go by the max pull power of the winch, the approx weight of the vehicle (with added load for being stuck etc). ARB's website doesn't even give a load rating on their's which I thought was odd. So I'm asking here. I would like to pick one up, but want to be sure I am getting the right one.

Ideally due to the loads that are going to be exerted on it I would highly advise the biggest one possible. As well, you need to pay equal attention to working load and breaking strength along with what cable size it is designed for. I use ARBs 9000kg one. It is super smooth and probably one of the fastest and easiest pulley blocks to set up during rigging.

And just so you know, yes it will double the pulling capacity of your winch it will also reduce the line speed to half. However, when you are pulling close to maximum load with only your winch, it is not fast at all! With the pulley block, your winch will actually pull faster at full rated load than without! Why, no strain on the winch!! Also a pulley block gives you the magical ability to pull some one out while being parked beside them or perpendicular to them! Trust me we have done some amazing pulls all thanks to a Pulley Block!!

Also, be sure to keep in mind that some will work with both synthetic line and steel wire, but others will not be suited to both. If you have synthetic line, be sure to maximize and protect your investment and get a snatch/pulley block that is designed for use with synthetic.

- H2

- 12,500lb Winch

- 3/8" steel cable on the winch



So the ARB one should be good....
