I have been looking at getting a DVR for my rig, mostly because there are to many idiots on the road <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ngHead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':banghead:' /> but also for the off road trips for those "did you get that on film!!!"



I came across the site below but, as I have never heard of them I am wondering if anyone has any feedback before I buy?

They have some cool stuff and the prices are good.... almost too good!

Hey Marty, you need to talk with Marc aka Archangel. He has had a DVR for as long as I can remember and I think he also sells and installs them!

Now in my situatuon. I know ive mentioned a bit about my DVR system but i never had it fully setup to show off at meets. I dont really want to show off what ive done on the net, but i would be more then glad to show it in person next time we meet.



But to give you a bit of a head start if you wanna go fully intergrated w/GPS, audio, and 4chanel capabilty something like this is in your future.

Hunt around for one that uses SD cards, hard drives dont like -30c and large temp changes.

Question about the one your dad has, do the IR Leds cause issues at night? I mean they are going to be next to useless in the real world, but I'm wondering if they cause reflections off the glass. I have looked at that very one several times, but wondered about it.

I can't comment on vehicular dvr's, but I have tried setting up a security camera pointing out my office window at the parking lot outside. Works great during the day, but at night was completely useless because of IR LED's reflecting on the glass.

Yea the IR leds are pretty much usless, i guess you would only use them if you wanted to film the inside of the vehicle.



I tinkered a bit with it at night time, and surprisingly it doesnt have alot of reflection off the glass, but that could be because it was in a car and a car has a different glass angle then in a truck.. Either way it does absoulety noting to light outside. But depending on the model and LUX sensitivity, it had decent night time capture.. Enough that you could point out who caused a accident or such

Just to interject another posiblity the new Go Pro Hero 3 black has a lower lux rating and is wi fi enabled and comes with the fob for control to partered with a good lap top you have a good road dvr set up

So I guess the first thing I would do is figure out how to disable the IR LED's on a permanent basis. I have seen the reflection of the IR on regular cameras like Hummerbee stated, that's exactly why I asked the question. I have a IR light for my camera system at home, and really, even it is almost useless. It works in close quarters, but that's about it.



The GoPro's are fantastic, Smasher has the Hero2 however, that is not something I would want left in my window, and I don't want to take things in and out all the time... and they are too expensive to leave incase of theft. These other ones are less recognizable, and a hell of a lot cheaper, and as long as they ID who did what, that's all I need want (I always NEED better <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... feSpit.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':coffeespit:' /> ).
