Installing a new radio in the H3 is a piece of cake. I had a double din in mine and used the GMOS-01 to hook it into the H3's wiring harness. GMOS-01 will retain your factory chimes, but will not retain onstar. GMOS-04 will retain your factory chimes and onstar.
There is some soldering required to hook up the new head unit's harness to the GMOS-xx, but then you just use the connectors on the GMOS unit to plug into the truck's harness - no splicing / cutting of the factory harness required.
You will also need the appropriate dash kit to mount the new head unit in the dash - they are typically under $20.
To remove the factory stereo stick your fingers in the 12v accessory outlets below the climate controls and pull the panel forward (towards the gear shift) - there should be 6 or 8 tabs which let go as you pull. Disconnect the harnesses from the panel - should be one for the climate controls, 4x4 controls, two for the 12v outlets, and one for the hazard switch. Unscrew / unplug the factory unit and then reverse the process to install your new radio.
Good luck!
