well,  H3 5 cyl 3.5 3.7 came standard with manual Aisin-AR5 5 speed, so to get bolt on you cant get any better.

The dated ( because of only 4 speed while most auto trany today have now 5-6-7-8-even 9 gears) 4 speed automatic 4L60-E was an option..

if you want to get more gear in the automatic, i might be wrong but i think that the 4L65-E which has 5 speed should fit.

I guess that Keven might be able to confirm that. He may also have more options.

But on my 06 and 09 i had manual 5 speeds on the I5 and went well over 160k km on the 06 without any trouble. on my 09 didnt have it long enough to pass the 100k km mark and traded it for a 2010 Alpha.

Actually, the 4L65E is not a 5 spd transmission.

The 4 is how many gears
The L is for Longitudinal
The 60, 65, 70, 80 or 90 is the strength

So the 4L65E is simply a Stronger version of the 4L60E, both are great reliable transmissions that can be built to handle very high horsepower.

Since you do have a 2008 and you want a 6spd, I might suggest you a 6L80E. It would take a bit of work to make it fit just right but it would be Worth the effort. Your 2008 uses the same protocol for the electronics so it should be possible to actually make it fit and work. The transfer case should bolt up pattern wise I am just not certain for the shaft diameter and splines.

I would love to do this same swap but no one makes a computer interface to be able to do the swap yet...That I really want the new 10speed that GM will have out later this year!!!

Hope this helps,

Kev

Yes thanks for the Info guys. I was asking because my tranny is jerking sometimes and takes almost a minute to shift from 3rd to 4th gear. And also, I did not look but I guess the Canyon and Colorado must have in the later years a 5 gear or more on their automatic transmission. That should fit well, not? I admit that I did not think about all the program changes to the computer for that...

Okay, just looked and the Canyon or Colorado in the last year still had a 4 speed transmission... (sucks)!
