So A Buddy of mine from the Québec Land Rover Club was feed up replacing electric winches. He tried pretty much every big brand like Warn, Ramsey and SuperWinch and none would last more than 1 summer!
He decided that it was time for him to get The Ultimate Winch.
He Ordered this Amazing Twin Motor Hydraulic Winch from Britain.
http://www.red-winches.com/products/trydent-twin-motor-/6/
But he even had them modify the gearing so that it would be rated at 18000lbs or 9000kg pulling capacity!!!
So far he has run some brutal tests offroad and he is blown away with the speed and power of his new hydraulic winch.
I must say they seem to make some pretty impressive Electric Winches Also;

While they are nice...the price is Steep!!!
My Buddy paid $5000 for his!!
I think I will continue to enjoy my SmittyBilt and T-Max winches that have served me faithfully for many many years of Abuse!

Whoa..... I could think of sooooo many other things to buy with that kinda money...
I'm sorry.... I love my 12k ENGO winch... $400 so if I ever have to replace it... No big deal!
It happily pulled a fully loaded H1 up a steep incline... Found out my battery isn't up to par though... No room for a dual battery set up..
I chose the ENGO as I read the winch test by rock crawler magazine if I remember right... It wasn't number 1, but 3rd in rank for all the tests - the deficiencies were very minor... But you can buy 3-4 of these to 1 of the others... The famous WARN did the worst! They were on their third winch by the end of the tests as they kept failing... Can't remember who they rated first...

I have a 15000lbs Smittybilt X20 Submersible Gen 1 Winch http://www.smittybilt.com/gen2_winches.htmlon the front of my H2 and a 10000lbs T-Max (New Version http://westinautomotive.com/westin/viewproduct.jsp?prod=T-MAX%1A+Outback+Series-+Steel+Rope&id=51&vehicleId= ) in the Rear. My T-Max is still going strong since I bought it in 2006! So far with two years of hard pulling on my Smittybilt...I am very pleased!
One thing, if your battery is not up to par..try an Odyssey Battery http://www.odysseybattery.com/
I have been using these for years and I am forever amazed the beating that I can give it and that it keeps coming back for more!
On a side note, I am not sure why so many people are still loyal to Warn...I have seen so many of them fail it is not even funny!

Re: RED Winches...The Ultimate Winch?
I had an odyssey battery in the deuce and had nothing but problems..
Now I'm pretty sure it was the messed up GM electrical system, but an kinda nervous anyways...
Gunna go with the platinum die hard which is very similar to the odyssey... Price is similar too... Better warranty as well..

Wow, That is the first time I have ever heard of any problems with an Odyssey. I have been beating on mine for almost 6 years now and still goinf very strong!
I have them in my Skidoos, Atvs and Seadoos and all of them are still working strong and very very reliable!

Yeah, I know.... I really don't think it was the battery but the famous GM electrical system..
I remember when I had to exchange it, even they said the battery doesn't like some systems ( basically hinted at GM ) where the charging system is monitored....
I have no doubt it would be fine ... Lol - just gun shy now..

Re: RED Winches...The Ultimate Winch?
The early GM Charging systems that cycled the alternator (like on your 2008) to try and save fuel economy were a foolish design and I Think they finally worked the bugs out...but you can turn off that feature using EFI Live or HP Tuners!!!

LOL - wish I knew that a year ago when that system would suddenly decide to not bother charging the battery...
Oh well....
