Door lock mechanism

Post by Monk »

I drive a 96, and my door locks didn't work well, (age) it would stay locked and I'd have to pull door knob to open,

Basically it's sticking a lot

What's the best for lubricant? I wannna lube up, but nothing to thick, or anything that will collect debris.

Pull the mechanism out of the door, then spray with degreaser, then oil with a light rust preventative. reinstall. Check cables for any resistance, is any, replace. Its only time and money!

Mine does that too. My situation is as follows:

I can't open the rear passenger doors from outside when I unlock the vehicle The 1st time. Once I open the rear passenger doors from the inside and close the door, then I can open them from outside. If I lock the truck and then unlock it, rear passenger doors won't open from outside (unless I open once from inside then it'll open ok from outside).

I'm thinking possibly actuators getting stuck?? Might swap from front doors and see

I had that EXACT Same senerio, lol same door.... What I did is take off inner door panel, and got brake cleaner spray, and sprayed the lock (while clicking on and off) I was very liberal, theeeeen I got ( jigaloo) spray (it's like a w40) and sprayed more (everything lock related) basically soaked it and clicked door lock, then worked. I'll use silicone spray next time (seems to be great from what I read for locks)

if your actuator works I'd first try to clean mechanism first , the actuators don't have much of a kick anyways . So good to keep rest smooth

Or can be a cable also, I've changes those before also, just to cover all bases. Hehe those cable should be smooth, debri and rust gets in them and makes it stick,.

I think you should simply save yourself the trouble and order a Brand New one for Roy!!! At least that way you'll be good for a couples of years instead of a couple of weeks!!

And yes I have tried to lube them also...Then I replaced them and had no more frustration!!!

I think peace of mind is well Worth the small cost of the door lock!!

At least it was for me!!!

they are a pain in the butt. I changed all my power actuators and it fixed only one door lock. i think there is a design flaw with the rears. i believe it is either the cable which over time becomes less rigid as it flexes a little each time you use the locks. I also noticed the swing rod that the cable attaches to for the rear locks has a lot side to side play rather than just swinging to open the lock.

No real flaw, just have to loosen up all swiveling joints. Just like our selves, old age stiffens up the joints

Lol every once in a while I'll have to double click door lock to go up.

I think when weather gets warm, I'll remove mechanism and soak in a good cleaner ,scrub , lube , and reinstall
