Replace vacuum pump

Post by Monk »

On the 96 N/A has anyone ever replaced the vacuum pump? This pump is only on for the year 96 n/a.

(Of course it is, :-( what a pain)

Any way would anyone know if I have to pull the full compressor bracket? To get at the bolts.

My pully is a solid piece and bolts go from back towards front, I'm assuming this pump is threaded.

Lol wondering if I dare open this can of worm orrrrr is semi decent once I get into it? Almost looks like I have to pull power steering pump?

So your vac pump is on the drivers side? Have not run into this one yet but you should be able to remove without but I am just guessing.
Will check into another 96 in the lot today.

Sooooo basicly I found a Google pix, in this pic they replaced the ac compressor with a bypass pulley (top right) with just a pully and JUST below you can see the 3 bolt hole where the pulley for the vacuum pump would be, that weird bracket on right is same as I have. Seems to go over steering pump as well...... Shezzz

Now if you can imagine a vacuum pump and a compressor ,equals zero room to find a way to get behind, for bolt heads as it faces back to front, lol

Try and see if you can see bolts from behind, a socket, extension and a univerval with electric tape around the joint will stiffen uni, should do the trick
