H1 Differential Play.

Post by drm »

I have a 98 H1 and the rear left axle flange has some up and down play in it. Between 1/16 and 1/8 of an inch. I want to change the bearing in the diff. Will that correct the problem? Any one know how to do it and can it be done without pulling the diff. thanks.

should reduce this play with a new bearing. Can be done where it is.

remove, halfshaft, rotor, caliper out of the way, brackets for caliper, remove ,off diff, side plate  bracket, if you have a torch, slightly heat case around bear area then pull assembly out--stub shaft, seal, bearing, or use slide hammer to remove

I have to do this to my right rear, I hope it's not to much of a bear to remove, was planing to try any month now,

For me it was my rotor moving when brakes applied and relies my flange wiggled a bit as well.

The side plate holds the seal in, which holds the bearing in place

You should also check your rear half shaft inner joint for excessive play that might be causing the damage to the bearing.
