Half Shaft for H3

Post by yevych »

Got my half shaft broken last weekend and was looking for replacement. Dealer in Richmond Hill asked for over $500 for OEM... I bought one from PartSource for $115 (SurTrack). Canadian Tire is selling the same for the same price. I know it is Chinese company - but what is not made in China nowdays?

Does anybody have experience with SurTrack parts? I found different reviews on net.

Any other suggestions for where to buy half shaft and what brand is reliable?

I purchased some off shore shafts for the H1, and with a little use, it blew apart in the second day---10 minutes into the trail, no climbs.I am chatting with the manufacturer to see if the process can improve greatly, or no more buying. I had 20 shafts in stock and they all may go back.

That's not a good news... I was thinking to buy another one to replace other side - since they come with lifetime warranty. but then, what is the use of warranty if they gonna keep breaking every time I go off-road...

If you are getting a lifetime warranty, you should be good. At least that shaft will not cost you if it breaks again!

Agreed, can't beat lifetime warranty... but don't really want wasting time for changing them more often, and wasting time going back to store for replacement. Planning to test them soon ...
They look a bit different than OEM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X20vhg03H8

Hi Mike,

I have never tried those but I am currently using A1 Cardone New shafts on my H2 and so far they have lived under the beating that I have given them!

I used to use reman shafts and I was exploding them one after the other! Since I have been running the new A1 Cardone shafts I have not had any other issues!

Mine do look different than my OEM shafts but overall mine fit and work great!

Give them a good test!

Btw, You should always carry two shafts...trust me I know from experience!

Thank you Kevin. A1 Cardone for H3 was a bit more expensive - but it was Remanufactured... I'm not 100% sure what that means so decided to stay away from it :-). I also ordered OEM from AutoRock for much cheaper price than dealer gave me - close to $300. Currently have 2 SurTrack installed on my truck, and have 2 OEM..... but still thinking whether I should offroad with these and carry OEM or put OEM back and carry cheap Chinese as a backup.
And yea, I totally agree and will be having both with me next time I offroad.

So, I have been learning & practicing installing new half shafts for a week now :-)... first, installed 2 SurTrack on both sides, then I've got OEM and decided to go back to OEM (on both sides) - they look beefier and served me well for 5 years. To remember how and perhaps to help some other dude to learn.... here is the vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTHNO3q ... 4DZmjTXT_H
