After a minor mishap, I am in need of a cooling fan, would anyone know if the fan is the same as a 6.5TD off a similar era GM? or is it something Hummer specific?

To my knowledge it is the same as a 6.5 heavy duty fan from a van and that may be the same as a hd truck with the 6.5.

When I look at the following website (Lynch Hummer) I noted that there are two fans available for the 6.5TD;  a pre1998 and a post 1998. May want to ask to make sure you get the right one for your truck. If the pics are of actual fans I see one has eight blades and the other ten.

Here is the  one on my 99 TD. It's the 8 blade. Oddly enough.. I just went through this as my new fan, shroud and fan clutch failed and were replaced gratis by the dealer here in Edmonton. The part numbers are in the 2nd PDF. I would put a new clutch on too if you're going in that deep.

Thanks for the response!

I have the 8 bladed fan (whats left of it) I did see that there could be the alternative 10 bladed fan as well.

My fan shroud is pretty beaten up though, its going to require replacing, so now I am just thinking of making a custom shroud with an electric fan, taking the fan off the front of the engine, I want to do the Duramax swap down the line so this could be steps in the right direction.

I already have 2 pushers on the front of the stack.

The electric fan set-up would be better than the factory mechanical fan. Less chance of scrapping a bunch of stuff when you really flex it offroad and better access to the front of the engine. And you should reduce our fuel consumption as well!

Yes, thats what I was thinking too, it wont be for a month or so until I finish my Defender, then I will be able to get it in and start work on it.

Do a 4 fan pull, 2-10 ,2-14 with an enclosed shroud so fans pull thru rad instead on the air around fan. When doing this, put a 170 temp fan switch in the lower rad hose so fans come on after rad has not been able cool the coolant enough
