Outta curiosity has/ or anyone you know ever custom fab'd a drivers side turbo on a pre turbo hummer?
There is a lot of room in the driver side and , figure if one made a custom turbo manifold it be doable....?
Run on 4-7 psi to keep safe,..I'm sure the little extra kick would be nice
Figured with n/a db2 pump it be an electronic free option??
Any thoughts on this?
I had my Hx35 cummins turbo "held it" and was good room everywhere and those turbos figured be sweet, as few 6.5er do it US side
I'd think only part custom (or pain making) would be an manifold and once the turbo/ blow off valve is placed it would seems straight forward zero body lift as well..
I've layed under my truck a lot " even napped" and can picture it, only part not sure about is the fresh air have to go to opposite side to filter

Best option would be either a Whipple supercharger that sits in place of you factory intake manifold which gives a nice clean install and a major power increase or a Vortech style super charger that would simply be belt driven.
To put a turbo on the drivers side would be a nightmare due to the CTIS Compressor, Steering Shaft, Fuel Filter and Lift Pump and A/C Compressor that would all need to be moved to accomodate the Turbo and you would need some serious Heat Shielding!
Just a thought!

For parts availibility, the van body turbo may be easiest. Only real modification is a half inch body lift from non to turbo model hummer. Then , instead of the stock turbo, get the updated larger turbo used with the p400.

I think BAE systems have a center mount turbo that kicks serious ass.
Probably not a trivial install. Its said its the same as Peninsular's new turbo.
There is also the Super 77 or Super 84 from Heath. The Super 77 has been done
in a few Hummers and can be got via Rubber Duck. Good for low end.
The Super 84 is still Heath's main turbo for the faster CK trucks and if paired with
the Merlin DS4 variant injection pump you can make 300hp.
I have been mulling over ideas for a 6.2 build up with an A Team turbo and KOJO tune.
A lot of CK trucks use this option instead of HX35/40.
If and when i get my blown out 2 door recruit this is the direction i want to go.
6.2NA 599 short block torn down.
Hardblok the water jackets to within 4 inches of the deck.
Machine work to include deck facing and boring the cylinders over for 6.5 Mahle pistons.
Fractured rod ends and gapless rings on pistons.
567 straight heads with diamond pre cups and bronze valve guides installed.
Harlan Sharp rocker assembly.
I would keep the stock cam but go with a Scat crank.
120mm/3 Merlin DS injection pump
Fluid damper
D max cooling fan with high flow water pump or electric water pump. Still researching!
Hardened input shaft to the 4l80
ATT A Team Turbo with updated KOJO tune on the PCM
Chemical intercooler
Water/steam cooled headers
All this ends up being less money than the less powerful brand new options ie P400, Optimizer etc.
