If one was to do there breaks for the front, is there anything special needed?

Like from reading some say the top calliper bolt is a pia ??

Can you use a regular ratchet or normal wrench?

I think flash said to use a curved 14mmm/ 9/16 wrench,..,but is that necessary ?

I have had pads kickin around forever and really should pop em in.....lol I'm sure works better that way, hehe

I got the caliper opener tool today, 5 buck tool... Also (not including polar bears time frame,heheh)

How long should one expect to do, relaxed, 1.5?

The left top bolt is a PITA!
 
I used a ratchet wrench (9/16 I think it was) but the special curved wrench would be better...especially if it was a ratchet one.
 
Its pretty straight forward after that for the front. Spread/inspect/reinstall.
 
The rear is more work as you need to drop the skid cage and deal with the parking break but it's otherwise not too bad man.
I did take the corners off the new pads as the guys say to keep them from chattering and it worked fine.
 
Funny you posted this today Monk as I noticed my brakes were squeaking a bit on the way to the dealership to check on the wife's H3 which is under the anesthetic yet again! (Ball joints..etc)

Ya , was wondering if a regular wrench would work...

Luckily had my rear brakes done last rear ,

Got my rear callipers and my diff seals off Roys Shop, but forgot to order those little star washer seals, soooo always had a little diff leak and , again the star seal is on a to do list one day soon, topping the diff up monthly sucks....(well with Ont, winter temps, hehe)


lol, same as you mine were squealing a bit yesterday am, and figured I should break down and do them, last time was they were changed was like 5 years ago, but I figured a straight forward job.,

There is a Special tool for this...makes it effortless!

I only purchased the 9/16...didn't need the others!

The snap-on site is down now, but I think on flash off-road I saw that tool...

I'm getting it too as even with the ratchet wrench it is a pain...  

Snap-on t handle racket 9/16 wrench. # RTB18 easiest tool fot the job.

Maybe the abs are different? As mine are non abs

I went under to look at the job to "tackle" the caliper bolts are Allen key heads (not sure on size yet)

I then googled some pics of front caliper pictures are the Allen kind as well...., seems semi decent for wrenches....lol, Shockingly "I was expecting worst'

Only thing I noticed is one caliper looks newer, but the other caliper ,the bleeder screw looks ,hmmmm like it's been there a while... Almost not sure if it would turn, I hope....

The Allen Head bolts are the slide pins. The black bracket is the one that has the 9/16 bolts that hold everything in place. It is far easier to remove the black bracket with the caliper!

I'm tired, lol, I looked quickly and just assumed those were the bolts, lol, hehehe I feel stupid now,......lol....your correct
