Window regulator cross ref :)

Hey guys, I forever had a driver window that would go part way up and then stop and click alot....

My window motor seemed good...

Sooooo, after tons and tons of digging around the internet I got a regulator for a Jeep I think and I was able to use the coil that goes inside it and if you get the correct side you can get the window motor brand new also.. But motor sides opposite.... Lol I found out the hard way. This was a super easy job and if you even have the slightest bit of knowledge you can do this and not spend the Crazy Prices that are brand new regulator cost. I have a ton of pictures I will download tonight when I have more time.

My only sad , pathetic, upsetting part is I took the motor apart to look at the gear and stupidly button everything back up door panel on..had it all work together and when I try to go up or down realized I forgot to put the gear on the motor and all I can hear is a motor spinning in the door....

Yip clean everything and lol had to forget the most important part....

And all I say is wow, goes up hard and wish I knew this year's ago....as now can do the rest in the future and not go broke...

Needed:

1996 jeep Cherokee

Window regulator assembly

Removal:

You have to remove your door panels then you remove all the bolts that hold in your window regulator , after everything is loose you grab your window regulator and turn it "clock wise" to the right eventually the bottom will come out and you could take the whole assembly off

Assembly/getting ready :

Now you have the two window regulators your brand new one and your old one.

For the hummerwindow motor ,you have to drill out the rivits.

At the end of the Hummer window assembly there's a bend clip you straighten out, so you can slide the inner spinning coil off.

This is the time to brake clean the old regulator housing, and then spray so extra slippery for the future.

After you have the old coil off , remove then end from the Jeep and remove that coil.

Slide the new "jeep" inner coil into the hummer "cleaned up" housing.. Find some little bolts and sandwich / your new window motor / or old motor

(I got the left side 96 jeep Cherokee assembly to do my drivers side door, so THAT motor I could not use, as its reverse,it does not matter which side you order from the jeep for only the coil rod, but if you want to use the window motor, get the opposite side required) then it's like 1 stone :)

Now the Jeep has an end (that attaches to the window) you have to drill off an end rivet but you'll see it ..(2nd pic is the jeep end , and the hummer end so you'd see better)

for the jeep end with the 2 holes IS a little off from the hummer so I just drilled a new hole ,

I'm sure it's best to just oval the holes like the hummer holes were.

Put it back in the truck and reverse the process to finish up , BAM smooth and like new.

This wasn't a hard job, and not to long...

Before you put the door panel on, have the window go up and down, make sure nothing (your new bolts) don't hit any thing inside.

Some pics

Top first pic is comparing the two jeep and hummer, this is why we can't use the jeep assembly, way different

First row centre pic was the hummer end (two holes) and the jeep end which I had to drill off the rivets, and then noticed the jeep holes are a tad closer together then the h1, so either oval it, or in my case, I just drilled a new hole and added a bolt/nut.

The second row middle was the completed assembly ready to go back in,.

Second row first pic is me spreading the bar, so I can slide out the coil

The top 3rd pic is the new bolts I used to sandwich the motor back together

The jeep coil bar is a Tad shorter, but still more then enough, to work perfect

As you can see the truck used to be white, I should have painted He inner door while I was there,

But on a good note i oiled up things to prevent rusting inside the door,

Hey Monk. I had the same issue but mine was the gear inside the assembly where the motor is attached to. The gear cracked. I opened it up and was able to replace the gear and fix it up with the help from Roy in finding me the part. When I had my door opened up I just cleaned everything inside and greased it up good.

Lol he's like a samurai at work, I'm sure you could blind fold him as he assembles and he wouldn't miss a beat.hehe

Wow, that would suck, mine gears made of steel, I have the same middle hex as you,...

I'm surpirise they'd use a plastics for a big use item
