Fan clutch mod

Just curious if anyone has ever tryed it?

Basically the centre of the coil of the fan clutch you make the end tab 1/8 - 3/16in less , and it's supposed to engage the rad fan little sooner....


Ive always wanted to try this mod, (and have a back up clutch on hand in case, lol) but wouldn't mind an earlier engagement ...

Well....


Ever have those parts that slowly get worst and you sorta get "used" to it, either sounds or handling ...


I was planing to play with my current fan clutch (just because it was summer )to adjust the coil to make it engage quicker, as I always hear people say sounds like a jet engine when fans locked, I never heard that sound.


So I got a Hayden heavy duty fan clutch, to put on while I messed with my old one for the spring mod... Which I'm my eyes was still like new, even though it was like 5 years old, lol looked shiney still, figured it was mint still.


Well,I did a drive literally 1 hour before I changed it, and was hitting "under a load" 215-220 on a heavy hills,

And seemed a little slower to cool down "but I chauked that up to humidex of 39) was totally fine on city or Hwy. It always cooled down after few blocks, just seemed slow to me...


This Hayden clutch is physicals bigger, well looked beefier compared to my old one, and it was heavier as well.

After , I put it on I basically drove the same route I did the first time, (before the change)

Started up the hill again, and lol heard the fan after a bit and noticed temps didn't even touch 215 (this is The factory gauge but still had a guild line) as I'm NA motor "no elctronic" , and wow, I knew the fan was working as every tstat open I seen her drop in temp fast,


There was a huge difference !! I think I got used to the gradual less working clutch, well that my story for today, hehe

My pump is the stud kind, not the big nut kind,,,, only 8 nuts and she's off 4 for the fan, 4 for the clutch


Very happy now with the better engage clutch, my old ones now in the garbage, pfffft...

Ps, I put my little propane torch on the old clutch, and can now see, the very centre shaft was rusted (or corrosion) but was harder to turn, so ya it was time,I was just was glad the clutch change happened before I could have cooked an egg on the intake on a hot day,

After a few runs today I can totally see a difference now in lower temps in general

Ya, today was warm and that dreaded hill near me, I know my normal temps were always up there and stayed for a bit,....

And this new clutch is making a night and day difference ....., max temps at full throttle/load for a while up (what I call death hill)

Lol clappison corner hill , max was at 210,

It's never stayed that cool, and once I got to the top literally seconds later she was left of 200, perfect......

I know I shouldn't play with fire, but I still have plans for the HO pump sometime soon, just cause mines a million years old....I'm sure the Incas built it, possibly cave men,....

But ya, just wanted to up date how well that clutch worked....


Death wobble also a thing of the past Roy fixed er , and no more praying before I put into "D" haha
