Be warned--Never use this type of tow strap with metal hooks to try to extract a stuck vehicle.

Another fatality was reported recently. See the correct type below.

A FLUSHING man was killed instantly Friday evening in a freak accident that occurred at the Powerline Park in St. Clairsville.

The 22-year-old was attempting to use his four-wheel drive truck to free another similar vehicle that was bogged down in mud when the accident happened.

Joey Fulton of Flushing was driving the tow vehicle when the hook on the second vehicle snapped and flew forward crashing the his back window and striking him in the head killing him instantly.

"It was a very freak accident," said Belmont County Sheriff Fred Thompson. "No others people were injured. He was just trying to help someone out. The hook snapped when he initially accelerated his vehicle in attempt to pull the other vehicle out of the mud."

Thompson said the park is often used for such activities and did not anticipate any type of charges to be filed in the accident.

"They were just enjoying some off-road activities with their four-wheel drives," Thompson said. "It was an organized event.

Also responding to the scene were officials and emergency personnel from the Ohio State Patrol, Cumberland Trail and Flushing Volunteer Fire Department.

Fulton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Use a D-Ring Shackle and a recovery strap with sewn loops on each end.

I will trust only products made in the U.S. or Canada. Do not settle for less.

I use 3/4" shackles and a strap with a 30,000 pound rating.

The hooks on winches are provided by the winch manufacturer and are safe for pulling with a winch from a stationary vehicle.

Never use your winch cable to try to yank another vehicle out, or your vehicle's movement to 'assist' the recovery.

The winching vehicle must remain stationary.

I just picked up a 27,000 lbs strap but I cant seem to find a place that sells a decent sized shackle in town.  Anybody know where I could buy them online from a Canadian business?

Thanks

How to get yourself killed using a "tow" strap.

Ok, now I would like a little advices on how to use my "recovery" stap.

Do you guys loop the strap around the frame or something on the stuck vehicle and use a shackle to connect it to the tow hook on your Hummer?  Or do you use a hook or shackle to attach the strap to the stuck vehicle?  Any input from the experienced would be helpful.

Thanks
