Rust Proofing

I am looking to safeguard my investment because of the severe winter weather ton of road salt solution that the MTO uses.  I looked at rust proofing my Hummer and there seems to be two options.  One option is the spray application.  My fear is that they want to drill holes in the doors, panels and pillar to apply the spray to the corrosion compromising areas.  Will these holes affect the performance of the Hummer when off-roading by allowing water to penetrate the vehicle???  The other option is the electronic device.  I really don't know much about this device, but I have heard both good and bad.  Anyone out there rust proofed their Hummer and have some recommendations?<img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... #>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='???' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... #>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='???' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... #>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='???' />

I have read that the electronic devices do not work.

This is a hearsay opinion, not based on any personal experience.

I can speak about the RustChek and Krown spray applications.

  They work, and work well.

My wife's SUV is a '99, and has been sprayed every year by RustChek.

Her previous Pathfinder was a '90. and was sprayed every year.

Never any issue with internal rust penetration.

That said, vehicles today are made tremendously more rust resistant than 20 years ago, and I am not an expert on the subject.

Perhaps others feel a spray application every year is not needed on newer vehicles.

I have an '05 Lexus that I will keep until 2011 or 12, and am not doing the RustChek.

(as I reread my post, I realize I am not helping you at all. Wait for a better authority to reply)

I have had very good experiences with Rust check. It works! <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I am not impressed with Krown, bad experience. Did not work. They ended up having to pay for rust repair twise on the same vehicle. For them to honor the warrenty the vehicles has to go in every year <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /angry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='>:(' />.

I am starting to research the electronic devises. Counteract has a unit designed for vehicles with an aluminum body and steel frame. About ten years ago some friends of the family had such a devise installed on their Mazda 323. The car was about ten years old at the time and had no rust. Most of the same cars had holes rotted in the body panels. I saw that it did work. Unfortunately I did not look to see which brand of device was installed in this car. I am going to do some more research. I have a friend whose dad knows people who use these things on their fleet vehicles. I will find out what brand they use and if they have any comparisons with trucks that did and didn?t have them installed.
