Torsion bar lift on an h3

Post by edawh3 »

Hey guys!  I was just wondering if you can crank the torsion bars on a 2006 h3 that are stock or do you need to replace the torsion keys to do this?  One guy tells me that you need to replace the keys and another guy says you can do it with the keys that are already on it.  Not sure who to believe.

Thanks!

I believe Blackbear did this... it is a leveling kit made by "ready Left" check them out online... I did it for my H2 from them, gave me 3+" in the front..

Kevin do you know for sure??

Done it. You will get 1.5" - 2" with out the lift key and the ride will still be ok (a little stiffer). If you go any higher with the keys it starts to ride like a lumber wagon. The keys are good for a small lift anyway. If you don't use the key the bolt gets pretty long and the moment on the bolt causes it to have to travel about 1/4"-3/8"  cross car when the suspension is at max flex (real off road). This is not a big deal but you might here a pop sound right under your floor boards every now and then. I used to put grease on the contact area and that did the trick. The keys keep that bolt nice and short. Also it you crank up the front end any more the 2" I think your near the end of travel for upper control arm adjustment, causing the camber to not be adjusted easily. If you look at the front end you will see a cam shaped washer on each side of the upper control arm that is used to set the camber.  If your turck is older and have old sagging tosion bars the keys are the trick because you won't have enough bolt length to lift it up.

Hopr this helps
