While tearing down my shed to make way for my new shop(25x28ft) a strap broke and went crashing through the front of the shed. This video shows just how much energy these straps can hold and just how dangerous they are.

This is a fine example of how not to attach or use a recovery strap.
It looks like the loop around the shed was formed by running the strap through a shackle, which acted like a dull knife and abraded its way through the strap.
Congratulations on not having any one around injured or dead.

no it was looped through a 6" straps loop. The strap that broke was a brittle UV decayed 3" strap. There was only a shackle connecting the strap the the vehicle.
Also if you are using a winch of recovery strap or anything that holds energy it is a good practice to put a coat of heavy blanket on the line to force recoil to the ground.

Sorry you learned the hard way but the passing of a loop with a single layer strap ie a catspaw is dangerous as the strain is on one area of strap. on the plus side no one was hurt as you had the area cleared . proper would be to pad corners as well so no binding or cutting occurs. Also never ever use a defective strap.
