Hi,



Is there anyone that could talk about the difference between the 6.5 Diesel (170 H.P. 290 lb. ft.) and the 6.5 Turbo Diesel (190 hp, 385 lb. ft.)?



Let's not talk about the #8 cylinder issue on some TD, but more about on-road / off-road power, performance, etc. What is the crucial information to consider?



Fuel consumption... is there a big difference?

The TD is the winner in every category except two, price and repairs! You will pay more for a TD than an NA but it is worth every penny.



The TD will pull most hills in stride, get way better fuel mileage and be overall more fun to drive on the street. Off-Road if you plan on playing in some deep mud you need the massive torque of the TD to keep your meats spinning. Make sure to upgrade the cooling system with a rear head bypass tube and relocate the PMD add synthetic oil and you're done!

I found from www.hummerknowledgebase.com/fuel/mpg.html



Fuel & Fuel Systems/Mileage:



      Turbos:

    * 10.5 mpg worst at 83 mile per hour (22.4 L/100km)

    * 14.2 mpg best driving easy under 55 miles per hour easy stop and go (16.5L/100km)



      Non turbo:

    * 10.00 mpg is worst at 78 miles per hour (23.5L)

    * 13.2 mpg best (17.8L)



      Gas:

    * 3.8 mpg worst at 78 miles per hour (61.8L) ouch

    * 6.8 mpg best easy in town driving (34L)



Definitely the gas engine is not an option!



Are the numbers above significant?

in my TD , I average 14 mpg on a stock computer. I have put in a different computer from Heath Diesel and now get 18 mpg

highway at 60 ish. (plus a few extra parts)

Another note, the sound of the turbo whine is very distinctive,more so on full after market 4" exhaust.



A common problem is the valve actuater for the turbo,I got rid of this problem by putting a mechanical actuater on the turbo

ROYS, do you havethe complete Heath set up? I'm thinking of going with their products.

Heath diesel products seem to be well worth the money and less headaches. You can confirm that with TC and Whitehum2.

You can talk directly with Bill Heath to tailor your needs. The coolant bypass is definatly a better set up. Seems he has worked with the hummers over seas to prevent the over heating problem. He only works with 6.2 and 6.5 diesels.



I have put on the performance computer, remote PMD, coolant bypass,mechanical turbo actuator,and full exhaust.Worked with Phil and together we installed the works.

Just did a fuel mileage test today. At a speed of 65-70 mph , 2400 rpm ,  the truck averaged 14 mpg over  190 miles.

Will do another test at a lower speed next week on my way to St.Sauveur

Did a fuel study at 55-60, ----18.3 mpg .Looks like I will be travelling a little slower to save a few in the long run

Thanks for the test! 18.3 MPG isn't bad at all... This gives 12-13 liters/100km... (I should test my MPG on my subaru on a nice snow storm!  <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />)



Why do some people (journalist, environmentalist) always say H1 drinks > 30 liters / 100 (7.8MPG)...



Can you call my girlfriend and tell her this isn't bad at all?



What about MPG in the city?
