'New' Tire Carrier finally installed!

Post by Hesh »

Well, went ahead and mounted the 'new' tire carrier:

Drilling thru the bumper for the 4 (well actually 8 cuz of the double wall of the bumper) holes was a pain in the arse, and Im glad I had access to a plethora of bodyshop/professional quality bits, as that was hell on the drill bits. I ground off the nub that keeps the carrier from swinging open the whole way, but plan to drill a hole so that when opened all the way, that a pin can be dropped in thru the carrier arm, and thru a hole in the bumper to prevent it from hitting the rear fender when swinging back around, which will also allow me to fully open my rear barn doors, too.

Glad how it turned out, will be throwing a wheel/tire on it (hopefully) on Friday once my tire cover comes in.

For the price, I really couldnt beat it - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... MEWNX%3AIT

Nicely done! That is exactly how I was going to mount one before I realized there were a couple of options for h2 tire carriers. Both have their advantages. Drilling thru the bumper was the easy part! Try drilling thru the bumper and the plate that attaches the bumper to the frame! I was glad I have a machine shop a few doors down that sharpened my bits a couple of times.
