Here are a couple of pictures of my bypass filter install. It`s not totally complete yet, I have to make some guards to protect the filters and oil hoses. I like this system because it is a true bypass system, one filter sees all the oil and the second only see a smaller percentage. I left enough room above the mount so I can add a pre-lubber or a primer pump. I am running Amsoil 5-40 with engine hush, a additive from Doug in Orillia. The engine runs quieter with this set-up.

One reason I switched to synthetic oil is because my engine has low mile on it and I wasn`t worried about washing out mineral oil deposits. I have heard a lot of stories where people switch to synthetic on engines with high miles and then they develop problems with the engine using oil and needing top ups between changes. So I recommend you do some searches on line or talk to your mechanic to make sure it is a good choice for your engine.

Thats the same setup i have 98, but on my truck i cant install it in that location because the ABS controller and Washer fluid tank is there.

I am thinking to install mine in the area where the current filter is, between the frame and front drive shaft.

Derek

the dual filter setup Subprimer is talking about is just the OEM dual filter base, you just remove the factory filter mount and replace it with the dual mount base. it just gives you 2 of the factory filters for some additional filtering capacity.

Its not a bypass setup like 98HMCS or mine, which has a full flow filter and a partial flow 2 micron bypass filter that is supposed to remove alot of the soot to allow you longer intervals between oil changes.

Another advantage of the Bypass kit is it adds a couple additional quarts capacity to the oil system which helps with oil cooling.

I wanted to mount it underneath but the filters were too long. It was also going to very hard to run the oil lines.

paulg, do you have a body lift? That might of helped me when I was doing the bypass install.

i think 98hmc4 posted a couple of picks on the first page of the thread.

here is a link to the actual kit:

http://www.amsoil.com/bypassfilters/ins ... _BP252.pdf

I am in the process of doing my bodylift which should give me enough room to mount the filter base high enough that the filters are up out of the way, I will probably make a piece of plate up to protect them from stuff as well. I will have to see about the hoses, lucky for me my neighbour owns a shop that specializes in hoses and fittings for the hydralic and aerospace industry so the can make up just about anything for me for cheap.

I had flexible stainless brake lines done so i can drop the rear calipers to reset them for 40$

And I am getting them to make up a head cooling kit as well.
