Hi
I did a search but couldnt come up with anything. I`ve heard that Military vehicles are not allowed to be registered - however if I do a search online I read a different story.
"The only Modifications required for Importing Hummers into Canada is Daytime Running Lights. Contact us to inquire how easily this Hummer can be Imported into Canada for you."
That quote was from a dealers website selling ex-military vehicles. I know RMV change their policy on cars from time to time so perhaps this is out of date?
I imported a Bentley and my H1 Alpha from the states - when I did I used a auto broker who went to see them and picked them up for me and handled the paperwork. That guy is not about just now to check so I thought I `d ask on here... So was the previous quote saying all you need is running lights mod and your eligible accurate?... or have the rules changed?
There are not many military vehicles to be had locally. And I know they suck ass for drive-ability, comfort, noise etc but I`m buying cause my old "itch" for one has returned now I`m back in a H1 4DHT.

Re: US m998 importation
Hummers (H1) are different then Humvees or M998, the issue is more with the US government not allowing the military trucks to be exported..so different story between the two trucks, one was civilian and one is military..

My link
Heres a link to a HMMWV with the note near the bottom saying importation is simple.
I will contact them and see what they say.

I posted the link while you were replying - so you think this importer has it wrong then and its pretty clear the rules say that truck cant come in?

Re: US m998 importation
Actually I was searching further and conflicting info abounds - on another forum it seems members have succesfully imported HMMWVs into Ontario and BC.
One person quotes FLASHOFFROADs info/advice saying YOU CAN NOT IMPORT and the very next person from BC says they did import and drive their HMMWV on the roads insured just fine. Time to scratch chin.
Another person says they were told it had to be over 25 years old to get plated but I dont think this person was talking from experience.
I see another couple Canadians saying they imported.
I`m confused.

Re: US m998 importation
Donnie, the link has a statement that says "The only Modifications required for Importing Hummers into Canada is Daytime Running Lights. Contact us to inquire how easily this Hummer can be Imported into Canada for you." the key word is HUMMERS, not Humvess or M998s..
Hummers are easy to import, guys do it all the time.. Humvees...well that is a horse of a different colour
I believe there was a time when they could be imported but I am not sure anymore, the problem is that if you ask AM General, the Humvees were never meant for Civilian use therefore the trucks are not suppose to comply with Regular road standards, and AM General does not support these to be owned by Civilians ANYWHERE. now I do know members that have Humvees here in Canada as well as in Europe, how they originally got into the country?? I would be curious as well. I know there are certain forms that needed to be signed at one time for the Goodyear Wrangler MT tires so that the US Government knew where all Humvees specific parts were at all times.
I know of 5 Humvees in the Ontario area alone, just off the top of my head. The thing is that as far as I know, they were all purchased from a company that had already imported them.
If you find out more info Donnie, first suggest I have is make sure it is current, laws change on both the American and US side, the Trucks (Humvees) would need to have VINs, also make sure the sources that "say" they have Humvees, actually have Humvees, not a pieced together truck, because parts can be bought and then assembled here as well or conversion kits can be purchased as well to transfer your H1 into a Humvee or your Pickup truck into a Humvee.
As for Hummer H1s, day time running lights are usually all that is required to have any import on the road in Canada, but the trucks will need to "looked over and "certified" by Canadian Tire (the national Company chosen by the Canadian government to certify vehicles for registration in Canada). All vehicles have to go through a Canadian Tire after it is imported before it can be put on the road here, my H2 had to as well.
Let us know if you find more out or if there is anyone else that has some current information on importing these recently . Great topic by the way!

Re: US m998 importation
Ive contacted the that particular dealer and specifically asked about the military trucks current importation status. I`ll call tomorrow if they dont reply today.
The thread I found does have quite a few people saying it was easy for them. I will contact them to find out when they did this and that it was as easy as they say - basically they say its as easy as any eligible vehicle. There was mention of making sure the VIN complied in length.
BTW DWAXMAN ehile I got you, did you ever get photos from the guy selling the ex ambulance in the classifieds section here?

Re: US m998 importation
Not sure of which truck you are referring to specifically...
As for that Dealer in that link, the data and site looks like it is from 2009, not sure how current it is..and the other site, is it current posting in that topic? I am curious about this too because I would like one, but not willing to part with the 60+K for the Humvees that are already here and restored..
The portion on the sites of having a Hummer imported, day time running lights is still 100% correct.
if you find out more info.. we ALL would love to know.. as they are real cheap in the US
