im so used to 60 -65 mp/h (87-97kms/hr) that i dont even bother with the speed... im so use to " scanning" part of the drive where people look from back to the front and passing me steering on my ride, so i get that " look" we all pay for.
i am more refering to John Travolta in the "get shorty" movie - he said : if you are important - than the rest can wait... so if it only takes an extra few minutes to be where you want to be - why making it hell of the deal!. I love the H1 pull not the tire noise in my ears on hi speeds plus most folks now on hwyways look after mpg versus speed factor - gas and diesel is verrry valuable now - no point of waiste heh heh

I run mine at 65mph max. I was told that going any quicker than that for long lengths of time you run the risk of baking the oil in the geared hubs, which would be a very expensive mistake to make.

What's not been mentioned is speed consisitency. Hit a hill or try and tow something and an H1 slows down. Just about everything on the road is faster. They are not designed for speed, especially high speed for long periods; the portal hubs get hot, the transfer case gets hot and for many (not me) there are common wobbles and other weird, vibration-related issues at higher speeds.
Don't get an H1 to go fast!

Yes you can ...not a problem! Do you over heat right now? I drive my H1 all over the usa and Canada...over 12 hrs in one day ...many times
cheers

my truck does not overheat.. I have no cooling issues and have driven for multiple hours at highway speeds without issues...but again I do not push the limits..I don;t care if I am passed on the highway by everyone..I get there when I get there...and I get there without issues

The book says 84mph on a 97 turbo deisel. I drove from Toronto to Nova Scotia in one shot and back again averaging 70-85 on GSA's. Just change out the dex in the Tcase before and after. My hubs didn't get hot just warm. In a top speed test on the 400hwy i got to 103 before defueling on GSA's
My next set of tires Mickey Thompsons Baja Belted could only get up to 85mph top and the milage was terrible on those. I have new Goodyear MT's going on so we will see what they perform like.
I noticed that once you are above 70 mph the fan clutch cycles on and off more often. I usualy keep a keen eye on temps when driving that fast. Other worries at that speed is tire temps and blowouts.
These trucks were clearly not for highway use allthough they still perform well. It would be nice to see a low profile E range tire on 32 inch rims for the highway.
