Is it normal that my fan only kicks in at 220deg? I find this to be a little high considering that they say that the 6.5 turbo shouldn't go over 210.
Is their something I can do to get this lower? I have a new radiator, Predator exhaust modification (complete), Heath diesel Waste Valve adapter, new fuel lifting pump, K&N filter.

No, I found my fan kicking in around 188 or so. When it does kick in, do you hear the equivalent of a jet-engine/shop-vac crazy loud sound, or does it just spin? Easy way that Ive learned the hard way to tell if its gone is that if when you turn the motor off, if the fan doesnt stop spinning with in 2 rotations, and just spins till it loses momentum, the clutch is toast. I just had to order one after some deep water and mud offroading this past weekend, and the fan clutch was in and around $180 for the '01 year.
What are you pulling your temps off of? A scanguage or just the dashguage?

To answer your questions: I can hardly hear it when it starts. I'll check tonight if it does stop right away when engine is shut off.
And yes, I was reading from the dash gauge, which I know is not that accurate!

No problem, just dont be fooled if the rad fan is still spinning by thinking it is working when you open the hood. If you cant hear the intense sound of it, it may have gunk in the clutch coil, or may need the clutch replaced. Done any deep water driving, or good offroading lately? I dunno how prone these are to "give up the ghost" so to speak without offroading, but it's something to consider.

The only thing this beast sees is dirt, mud and water! I drive it on pavement only if I have to <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
Oh, and yesterday, I needed a Bulldozer to get me out! Got stuck in mud at the end of a trail and my winch gave out on me after 3 jours! Mile Marker hydraulic winch ... they said 100% duty cycle. But I'm thinking the oil boiled and the pump cavitated. I'll be checking things tonight.

Best thing to do for winching to save the winch is, use a snatch block.
Takes a little longer to pull, but saves winches!
Since you do mudding, have you pulled to rads apart to clean the dirt out of the fins.This means possibly removing the oil rad to get to the radiater.If the rad is not allowing enough air thru the rad , the clutch fan will not be able to sense the temperature coming off the rad.

I was using the snatch block 95% of the way, and when it finally gave up on me was the other 5% I didn't use it!
As for the Rad, I just changed it 3000 miles back. Plus I cleaned all other rads too. And it was doing it right after that. So I am guessing my clutch is gone. Will update you guys tomorrow, as I check this tonight.

I checked the Rad clutch last night and found the following: When removing belt tension, fan moves freely in one direction and there is tension in the other.
Is this normal or should I get a new clutch?
