Straight piping!

Post by rex »

Hi guys. Got busy with my daughter and hybernated for almost 2 years. Anyway, started upgrading my h1 again. I recently installed a tall snorkel..i will post pics once i figure out how to add pics again.. What im planning next is to do straight pipe( remove the section where the cat converter n muffler). I haven't done my research so ifigure i can get a good answer here..ive seen posting on you tube and i am amazed of the whistling turbo sound.. Question is...how simple to do this? Is it just removing the cat and muffler and put a stright pipe?.. Any advise will be appreciated.. Thanks

I've definitely seen aftermarket kits with the muffler being nixed, on eBay I think, but defiantly doable

It's basically a cat-back kit which is 4" alumnium pipe,

Rubberduck has a good exhaust, I believe it comes from Heath Diesel as Travis has taken Heaths Hummer line. I had it on my truck and fitted exact without mods. You will need to do the whole system except the y pipe. The cat delete pipe is sold for tuning only!!!  ;D

My H1 is done with a 3" stainless straight pipe from the Y back. Not sure who's kit it is as it was done when I bought it, but the fit in the left wheel well is something to watch out for. Mine could be better as it comes close to the 40" tire. (about 3" on the front side) I want to put 42s on next time but might have to mod the exhaust to do it. The fit under the truck is good though.
The turbo whistle is very prominent. I kind of like it...taking off from a light and blowing a cloud of black smoke into a convertible full of suits in sunglasses is one of my biggest pleasures. The turbo sound is the icing on the cake.

Hope you found a good fitting pipe kit.

Allright...finally got some exhaust work done.

I had stock exhaust with 3" pipe. I got the exhaust shop to cut out the exhaust muffler from cat back and straight pipe it and install a nice 4.5" stainless steel tip to finish it off. Sounds very nice. I was thinking of removing the wheel well loop and have the exhaust come out from the front of rear tire but they said that it might get hot to touch (I've got kids so...I left the wheel loop intact and exit out the rear).

See pics. Sorry truck is dirty/salt. It's winter

I'll upload video sound clips shortly
