H2 Winch Bumper Install With Custom Additions

Post by Humminnboatin »

Step One: Remove Bumper Assembly from truck. To do this you need to remove the daytime running light bulbs from the lenses. After that remove the 2 bolts from the underside of the steel bumper assembly that thread into the frame of the truck. Then remove the 2 bolts found under ther black circular caps found on the top of the bumper assembly just in front of the lower front grill. Now remove the 4 bolts for the front reciever. After the front bumper is off remove front skid plate.

This should take 10-15 minutes tops.

Step Two: Bolt winch plate to where the reciever was mounted and torque to specs.

Step Three: Mount your controller box to the supplied bracket.

Step Four: Run your Controller and power wires accordingly. Be sure to route them AWAY FROM YOUR BELTS!!!!

Then attach to your controller Box. However do NOT CONNECT your power wires to your battery yet.

Image

Set your winch on top of the plate and lay it on its front so that you can attach the wires to the motor. The flip it back back and bolt it down.

You can see it sits nicly between frame horns.

Now separate your factory front bumper assembly and attach your plastic to the new steel bumper and reuse the factory bolts.

Image

Now take the rubber "Mile Marker Logo'd" connector cover off of the controller box that is under the hood you are going to use this on the front bumper.

Image

Thread the controller wire through the rubber cover and the bumper. Then set bumper on front of truck and bolt down.

Install the front skid plate

They give you screws to mount the controller plate. Screw those screws lol. They suck and will not work. Attach that plate with a small machine screw, lockwasher and nuts or even better do what I did and use pop rivets.

Overall I have to say I have seen several winch bumpers for this truck. I have to say I do like it much better than the Warn for its approach angle. It truly does retain much more than the warn.

After one winter I found out on the trail that road salt had gotten into the plug and corroded it to the point where it was useless. So I called Mile Marker and their awesome customer service sent me a new plug for free. I decided it made more sense to relocate the plug to keep it out of harms way. To the H1 Winch plug location.

Then I decided to take it a step further and made internal winch controls.

The arming switch protects the winch from being used by accident.

Really I use this switch for recovery 10 to 1 over the plug in style. I do used the plug in style for respooling if I do not have someone with me.

Talk to Tony he can get you a great deal on a Warn or you could always get a great T-Max for a low price. Just so you know, nobody ever has a spare winch. We just mount multiple winches on our Hummers...just in case, we need our 'spares' on the trails!! Trust Me!
