As some of that have been following my saga of my off road lights and the dealer that will not replace them, my be aware, I have decided to take the roof bar that holds the off road lights on, off until it is figured out.

I tried to loosen the knob that adjusts the roof bars but when I round that they do not hold the bars on, I tried to tighten them up again. Of course, I got the knob half way tight then I'm sure you can guess what happened next, SNAP! I broke one of the bolts on the knob.

My question is, how do I get the front bar off now? There appears to be two clips on each side holding the bar on, one on the knob, and one under the bar. How do I get the ones under the bar off, do I have to unscrew the bar from the mount and then the clip is undone below that?

Thanks for your help.

I just installed a light bar .....but I have a SUT but if memory serves me the SUV has a peice that comes off at the very back of your truck on the roof rails ....you will have to slide off the other bars first to get your light bar off ...its a pain ....but ya look at the very back , i had to take off the marker lights in the back to get mine off ..

There are 2 ways in dealing with he roof bar that holds stuff to them.

One is correct in which end pieces are removed by the rear roof lights....sometimes those lights will need to be loosened. Then the bar can slide off the end. This will remove the bar from the top.

The other way is you need the keys to take off the bar end caps. Removing those, you can then slide out the lights, or roof rack...stock mountings. Keys are about $20 - $30 from GM. But once you have them, they are usefull.....don't loose them.

Finally got the bar off. For those that are wondering, how you get them off, is you removed the knobs completely, then remove the rubber strip on top and there are two allan screws on each end. Remove those then the bars come off the housing and then the parts that slide will life off as well.
