NEW H2 Front Differential Bushing

Post by whitehumh2 »

So, some of you may be starting to notice that many of the H2 parts are being discontinued from GM. I found this out earlier this year when I finally tracked down that the clicking noise in my front end was coming from the extremely worn out differential carrier bushings.

The main rear bushing is not available separately and only comes with the entire crossmember at a cost of over $700...but the bushing is replaceable separately!

The two smaller front bushings are simply discontinued.

So I needed parts but I had no where to be able to purchase all three parts.

So a quick Call to Roy at Crazy Canucks and the fabrication began!

Roy ordered up the necessary billet of Polyurethane and I sent him the parts from my H2 so he could have the exact dimensions. A couple of days later it was like Christmas when a box with all the bushings showed up at my door!!!

Here is the process and the new Bushings!

So I started by modifying my main brace since the OEM bushing had a metal sleeve and the new poly bushings don't I wanted to makes sure that the head had sufficient surface to apply force on and not get cut through!

I welded in a piece of 3/8 plate over the bottom tube to make it flat and to provide the needed support.

Since I had the whole crossmember in hand I decided to reinforce the main structure since I normally beat on my H2...I wanted to make sure it would be strong so I welded some angle iron to the front and rear edges.

This is what my front left upper bushing looked like...I guess I was overdue!

DSCN7373.JPG

Since the lower part of the bushing mount has one flat edge I had to trim it to fit the position.

Here is the bushing installed.

The upper right side was a simple install with no modifications needed.

I have already put the bushing through multiple beatings in Weir on trails like this;

DSCN7687.JPG

One thing, I did add was large washers as backing for the bushings to prevent bushing damage

Overall my whole front end is much more solid now!

All my noises are gone and my H2 works better than before!!

So if you see your front differential bushings are in need of replacement...Call Roy and get a set on order today!!!

I am working on one more lower brace to help act as both a shield and a extra mount to eliminate the diff front trying to rotate with the locker engaged...That will be this winter though!

Gonna look something like this;
