My cluster, on my H2, is still in MPHs, it has KMs in small font, therefore I do not believe you will need to change it out, my truck was imported from NY

I h ave done the search, found the threads, but still haven't found my answer.

I am looking at purchasing an H3 from the US. I had one for 3 years, lease was up, but now I miss it again.

I know that if I purchase one prior to an In Service Date of March 20, 2007 there is no gas guzzler tax, if not, its $1000.

I cant find ANY info on the cluster. Do I need to change it out, or can I just put a sticker, or is nothing required? For both odometer and speedometer I am confused! Hopefully someone has some insight!

Has anyone imported an H3, and any experiences to share?

Thanks so much!

Just imported my H1 a few weeks ago.No mention of changing the cluster at inspection.Mine is MPH with KMH in background.Odometer is in miles. You can always check with http://www.riv.ca/ for more info.

I was just checking out the RIV site and the site says about modifications after import, right off the RIV site:

It is important that you do not proceed with any modifications to your vehicle until you receive the RIV inspection form that outlines the modifications to be completed in order to pass the inspection process.

Typical Modifications
  • Recall clearance letter
  • The vehicle must bear a manufacturer's valid U.S. Statement of Compliance (SOC) label at the time of import.
  • Valid alpha-numeric 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • Metric speedometer and odometer labels (provided by inspection centre)
  • Daytime running lights
  • Child restraint tether anchorage hardware kit
  • Child restraint tether anchorage point locations (see Transport Canada’s List of Vehicles Admissible from the United States)
  • French supplementary restraint system label for airbags that require periodic maintenance
  • Air bag equipped vehicles are required to have functioning air bags at the time of inspection.
  • If the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the vehicle is less than 10,000 lbs. and the manufacture date is after September 1, 2007, it must be equipped with an electronic immobilizer system that meets Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 114.

So that's a vague answer... but I guess you won't know until it's in the country and get the inspection form. Either that or just call them, since the RIV site doesn't seem to have any specifics (that I can find).

My H3 is from the states but went through the inspection before I bought it, and mine has metric gauges.

Thanks. Tried calling but they didn't know either. Maybe I will call Canadian tire. I'm more concerned about the odometer, since it is digital.

I wouldn't worry about the odometer. My inspection was done at a local Chrysler dealership. They are autherized to do Provincial and Federal inspections. It cost me less than $100 to have it inspected.Check with you're local DMV to find out who does the inspections in your area. All papers must be sent to the border crossing (AMERICAN SIDE)that you will be using. They must have the papers(BILL OF SALE,TITLE AND RECALL CLEARANCE) 3 working days before you cross. The day they get them does NOT count,so send them the papers at least 4 days ahead of time using a courrier.Make sure you get the confirmation number from the courrier. You can also call and ask them when you can cross. There are no costs on the American side when coming across. When you get into Canada, you will have to pay the FEDERAL taxes according to the amount on the bill of sale. There is also a $100 air conditioning taxe.If your vehicule is 15 years old,or more, you DO NOT have to register it with RIV.If it is younger, there is a fee for registering it.I beleive it is close to $300.I believe you can have it registered with the RIV before you get to the border. If you are planning on driving it across the border, the ONLY way to do so is if the previous owner LEAVES HIS PLATES ON IT.If he will not leave them on,HAVE IT SHIPPED.There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY OF GETTING IT PLATED UNTIL IT HAS PASSED INSPECTION.If you ship it door to door, you will pay shipping cost and all other expenses the transporter incures. They usually charge extra for every form they have to fill out making it quite expensive. The best option moneywise is to have it shipped to the American side off the border, meet the transporter, then drive it across.Remember that in doing it this way, when you get to Canada, you will have NO plate on it.I made a mad dash to the nearest DMV and got a transport plate. It was free of charge, but only good for 12hrs.You CANNOT get a regular plate until it has PASSED all inspections. If you need a cheap transporter, let me know.

All the info here is great; however, you can get a travel permit issued from the seller's state which will allow you to drive it (usually depending on the state) from the point of sale to your home address. Once at your home address, you will have to have it towed to the inspection site or get a temporary travel permit (hard to get as some DMV will not issue them as the vehicle can not be insured while others will if you show them the insurance card from your broker...don't ask me why, but each DMV is different as it is a grey area and some won't touch it or are too lazy to phone someone to find out how to do it). I went and talked to the certified federal inspector at Can. Tire prior to the purchase and asked A LOT of questions, but I still got a run around as they wanted me to install DRL on the Hummer until I told them to try and shut off the "fog lights" on the front of my H2!! I educated them on the Daytime Running Lights being standard on the Hummer and you can either bypass the shut off for the lights by disconnecting the ground to the off position on the switch (mechanic at Can Tire did this for me) or you can have it flashed to be Canadianized (my word...not official word).

Hi,

I bought the H3 imported from US, by the vendor.

And for the garantee by Hummer Plaza (Montreal), the vendor must paid to Hummer to change the dash (For both odometer and speedometer), about 600$.

And the dealer converted the existants odometers from miles to km.

Quoc.
