haha, I suddenly feel inspired... well at least to start day dreaming <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... rgreen.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':mrgreen:' />



I wonder what diesel would fit into the H3... any chance of stuffing a cummins under it? I know of a 04' Dodge Diesel that has a manual tranny I might be able to get a hold of for a pretty good price.

There already was a Bully Dog duramax H3, and I have seen a couple of 4BT Cummins put in. (4 Cylinder Cummins)

4BT, now that sounds interesting!



I was just looking into it a bit; it is a 3.9L inline turbo that produces 130hp and 355ft/lbs of torque.



I wonder how that would work in my truck, 100hp less.. but 100ft/lbs more <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':blink:' />

I was reading something today that the Colorado truck was actually produced with an Isuzu Diesel overseas... still trying to figure out what size and how much power that diesel had.

Forget about HP numbers. In a truck that easily weighs probably twice as much, I only have 195hp, but 430 ft/lb of torque. That said, Ive gotten stuck, and been pulled out by a TD Hilux Surf that only has 90 hp.





A diesel H3 would be bad-ass <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ght_on.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':right_on:' />

It actually shouldn't be too hard with a manual transmission either; I don't have to worry about configuring shift points and with the way my truck is geared it would actually be perfectly setup for a diesel.



....now, to find more information on where I can obtain that Isuzu diesel that the Colorado uses!

Got it... although kind of wimpy;



Isuzu branded the trucks the D-max and sold them overseas with an inline 4 cylider 3.0L turbo diesel... the engines produce 134hp and 200ft/lbs of torque. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... prised.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whatever:' />

Doesn't GM make a 4.5ltr diesel.... that should slide in like a glove!

I have heard of a few conversions using the smaller diesel GM's found in utility vans... conversions for those sound like a serious pain the arse, probably not worth the cost.



These D-max trucks look interesting because they are based on the Colorado... anything that bolts into them would bolt into my truck fairly easily (or so I would think)





Just found that the Isuzu D-max in Australia produced 160hp and 265ft/lbs of torque.

So it would be 80hp less, but 25 ft/lbs more of torque... although my guess is that it probably much more tweak-able because it is a turbo diesel and it has a true Isuzu block (likely derived from heavy equipment). I don't think it would be unreasonable to get it up to 190hp and 320ft/lbs with a very mild diesel tune.

More good news, over there it comes with a manual 5-speed tranny... probably the exact same one in my truck, which means it would bolt in without any major modifications.

The real pain in the arse is always the electrical and the computers I think when doing these swaps.. Even though you've got the manual tranny everything else in the vehicle is so integrated that getting the other stock electronics to work with the diesel computer would be a tough one! Lots of fabricators out there can get the stuff to fit, but computer geniuses... tougher to find!



I was looking at that Bully Dog Duramax H3 that was gone a few years ago and the whole dash was removed and replaced because none of the stock gauges worked, new mechanically shifted transfer case, literally everything was new... and man oh man soooo much work involved I can only imagine!! That was an easy 6 figure project...



I know it's not a good as a diesel but a great project would be adding a positive displacement supercharger to the I5. I'm thinking an older Eaton M90 you could pick up for cheap, some fabrication work to get it installed in the vehicle, plus a tune and you'd be ready to rock. The M90 is good for about 450hp when maxed out so it's got plenty of breathing room for the I5 and you can get them for pretty cheap since they were factory equipment of so many vehicles over the years. By my math you could see a conservative 325-350hp on 6-7psi and an equal amount of torque... same as the diesel but with a better top end...



It'd take some homework to find out how much breathing room is in the stock fuel system since power wise I think largely you'd be limited by that more than anything else, I'm guessing no one is making high flow injectors or mass air meters for the H3... but you're definitely gonna have some room to grow on the stock components! Same power, more economical, cheaper (presumably)... granted still not a diesel but has its merits!
