Well... the wife shot down my awesome diesel idea... so onto the next one <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... rgreen.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Ok, so I have seen the soft-topper for the H3T... it is pretty nice looking, almost like a modern day version of the military truck style.

But the gap between the cab and the topper, the style & the $600 price tag is enough to inspire me to create!

So here is my plan... design a metal bracket they will install into the box rails... the bracket will go up and over the side of the truck allowing for an external tie down and posts. The posts will be about 12" high and allow for tent poles. Once that is in place, I should be able to rig up tent poles in a U-Shape, then get some black canvas and fit it overtop.

The result should be a ribbed 60's style military truck topper that you can stand up in... or smuggle people accross the columbian border if needed; like this

I like the idea... And if you can build it with tent poles... you'll get a high five from me that is for sure!! Awesome...

Found a variety of Canvas with tie downs!

Basically I can do the design, buy the canvas first... then tailor the design to match the canvas tie downs!

I'm already done...

...in my mind <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... rgreen.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I will start collecting dimensions this week, maybe hit up some of the hardware stores looking for brackets and material that might work.

I am thinking that tent poles may be too flimsy, not to mention something with a little more definition might work better. I might check out some PVC plumbing pipes and connections to see if I can get that 60's ribbed shape I want for the roof.

Once I have the roof line figured out I can trace it out on one end of the canvas, then cut the sides, then I can sow it with fishing line into the same shape... also sealing up the front will prevent it from catching wind and ripping the entire thing off. That also lets me get the tie downs past the side of the box and between the cab and the box so it has an authentic look to it.

I am totally getting some green Canadian Forces flag patches for it too

tough call...I may tend to agree with you...for sure the truck needs to be dirtier and lose the chrome Image if you want the back to "blend" in better...
