Finally,, i<m not insane and I didnt have to check myself in at the crazy hospital.



after 6 month of arguing with the mechanics at the GARAGE i finally got them to open the darn Front Diff and guess what they found







ahhhhhh! look at that,, a busted pinion,,, no shit,,, been telling them since december that the problem was up front in the diff.



Reason for the damage, not enough tension on the bearings and spacers, they allowed too much play that resulted in a teeth on teeth from the pinion and ring gear.



Well the good news, pinion and gear, bearings, and all will all be changed, i just hope that it didnt damaged the housing and that i have to go back to get it fixed. should have my H early next week.. I hate the MKX they gave me while waiting but hey! its better than the Dodge caravan they wanted to give me. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Wow , glad everything is going to work out . Your front locker is ARB ? From what i remember only the H3-T with the Adventure PKG had front @ rear factory Lockers <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... #>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='???' />

Hey Rhino has done the same twice but cause was transfer case destruction first time Queensway Hummer tried new cv shaft , rebalanced the drive shafts , then vibration testing of entire front end and rear drives finally they opened Front Diff to find gears totalled. Second Time the seal was damaged when transfer case blew up ( stupid plastic fork) they replaced it diff wouldn't come into spec. another set of gears and a better transfer case since no problems . Hummers great vehicles so so mechanics . Atleast nephew listens he knows his relatives (dad and uncles) know cars.

I am afraid of what I would find if I opened up my front diff, lol



It makes clicking sounds when I hill climb, although I just put some fresh oil in it so it should be better now.

Hey Nick,



if you are hearing clicking sounds...you need to open your front diff before it is too late! You don't want that to break on the trail!

Only time it clicks is if I am really pushing it up a steep hill... usually two clicks, then I back off. Haven't heard it click since I put the lift in it though. Seems a lot happier now with the wheels planted on the ground instead of bouncing around like an old stage coach with the torsion keys cranked up.



My theory was that because the front end was bouncing all over the place, when once wheel caught it would suddenly slam the entire drivetrain *click*... not way to confirm that until I hear it click again.



When I changed the fluid there was a little sludge at the bottom, but didn't look like anything serious.

an update on this repair



now that its been so long that i haven't had any problem ( 3 full weeks ) something was put back together the wrong way or something was missing.



result,, a snapped left side inner output shaft. Repair on their way. Diff apart for the second time to clean, check, and rebuild, they will also verify meticulously the transfer case so that i dont have any trouble on the way down to Indiana. Should get my H back in a few days.



Im happy not to be out of the race.
