? dose the front end really lock or is it the rear end that locks up

the rear has a lock, to do a front end lock you need to do a MOD

what mod has to be done and roughly now much canadian would it cost

what size tires can i go up to  with out putting a lift kit in, i was thinking super swampers 33" but not to sure its about $1000 for all 5

k guys i know i need a mod done to ther front of my h3 to lock it up but i have know idea were to look for that kind of stuff woulf it be gm or a tranny place that i should go to it's the first mod to the truck that i what done and im haveing no luck thanks if anyone could help

First Off, what year H3 do you have??? Yes it does make a difference. Do you have an adventure package or a base model?

To Me it sounds like you have a base model only because the adventure package already has 33s and a rear locker. If this is the case then you will need to purchase and install a rear locker as well as a front locker. For rear lockers you have a couple of choices since your rear diff is a 30spline GM 8.5, you can put an ARB, an Eaton or an Auburn gear ECTED(my personal choice!) The ARB also requires a compressor, which is great if you need a source of on-board air to reinflate tire after the trail. The Eaton or the Auburn are quick and easy to bolt in and don't require a compressor. For the front, now we have some problems! The factory front diff with the aluminum housing is scrap and should at the very least be upgraded to the Alpha Cast Iron housing. While this increases strength somewhat it in no way is a perfect fix. ARB was making a Locker but they are having durability issues so the are not releasing it yet until they get it fixed. If you want the best Upgrade wait till October then order the Factory 2009 H3 Alpha diff with Front Locker and at least the dealer will install it and warranty it. For tires 33s fit with no lift but 35s fit with a leveling kit and gives much better approach and departure angles. BTW, keep the stock rims they help to minimize problems!

that helped alot , we have a 2006 h3 with rear lockers stock with 265/75/16 RT tires , looks something like black bears but no mods have been done yet , we finaly got to take her mudding , my wifes, sisters boyfriend has a jeep cj with a 4.5" lift and 35 for tires and he was amazed  at what it could do he's been bugging to go so we went nothing big but now i know what its like to have her coverd in mud and the look you get from other people wow , any ways thanks again and i hope to but 35 on  , ? thow how much you think it would run for the alfa front end diff

An Alpha Front Diff with locker in Canada is close to $4500.00 not installed, it is way cheaper in the US but unless you have an American Address and Credit Card they will not ship it to Canada! The best thing to do would be to make a custom front diff that matches the strength of the rear to maximize durability. I was starting to make it for one of the members but then he canned the idea. A very strong and reliable custom front diff can be made for less than the price of the marginal strength Alpha Diff.
