Digging Up The Past

So I have been rooting around some of my families history in the BC area, basically they originally settled in a small town along the Arrow lakes about ~120 years ago.

I am planning on heading down to that small town on the August long weekend and see if I can recover some of my family heirlooms from some people who have inherited it by accident and probably have no idea such things even exist.

It is kind of a long shot, but I am specifically after some old survey equipment and log books stored in a stone wine cellar of one of the houses. It is actually from one of the original surveys done for the Rogers Pass, I was thinking it would be kind of cool to find that and donate it to a museum.

Anyway, I will keep you guys posted!

If you look is up on Google maps it is not exactly an easy place to get to.

I have to turn off the highway at Revelstoke onto the #23 (which is poorly maintained and very windy from what I have been told), drive for about an hours down that... take a ferry across the Arrow lake, drive for another 2 hours... take yet another ferry, then it is another half hours worth of driving past that. Crazy!

I think there is a paved road that goes all the way there, but some of the places I need to explore out there are going to be kilometers down off-chute gravel roads. Thank god for on-star in case I break down!

Awww... I have been phoning around, sounds like the house got broken into and the survey equipment was stolen. Still, there are some other things I am going to hunt for.

Kind of odd, my Dad was telling me that probably I don't know anybody but they will all know who I am.

I was doing some hunting around on a historical site and I came across this;

Edith is my great-great Grandmother; I was talking to the person who maintains the website and he forwarded me the name and address of her son who I might see if I can find in Revelstoke. He would be my great uncle, likely well into his late 70's right now.

Just came back... a day late, trip went ok but... well this should explain it better.

This is Galina Bay at the ferry terminal, had to have it flat bedded to Salmon Arm (go ahead, googlemap it... it isn't pretty). Stupid POS truck is sitting in Salmon Arm right now, I rented a car to get home today.

BTW Onstar doesn't work just like cell phones in remote areas... that whole "you will never be stranded" speech they give you is a bunch of BS.
