Just curious as to what everybody around here runs in the winter? Do most of you tough it out with your A/T's or M/T's or do you switch and run a dedicated winter tire?





I'm looking to find a decent winter tire, and when I say winter tire I mean a snowflake rated tire good for icy roads. I could care less that your pitbull boggers or toyo M/Ts do great in deep snow, my Coopers have already been through 10-12" deep powder and didn't stop, until I found ice. I need something for icy/snow packed roads as the city I live in rarely plows, they just sprinkle a little sand around to spend their budget, Ideally I'm looking for a 315/75r16 to keep a full size spare for my 35"s in the summer, but the only TRUE winter tires I can find are a Yokohama Geolandar I/T and my local dealer can't source any.



The other option I have in that size is a General Grabber AT/2, its an all terrain tire that can be studded. Does anyone have any experience with these tires at all? I've been reading reviews, most I've been reading have been fairly good the only major complaint is a soft sidewall and soft tread, both of which I'm looking for in a winter tire. BUT the price for 5 (4 and a spare) mounted, installed, and balanced, is just shy of $2000, the same price as my 4 35" Cooper M/T's.

For my part if im not wrong I have Geolandar I/T G072 in the 315/75 16

I say if im not wrong because i always confusing the Toyo Open Country G-02 same size, that i wanted at first or was it the other way around. anyways, so far the one I have as winter tire because here in Quebec you have to have Winter Tires, they are great, smooth ride, quiet, and more than decent in winter off-roading , found that out on the Polar bear winter run last december. the grab pretty good as Keven was describing them, he explained to me that he could see little claws coming out of the treads and grabbing the rocks to climb over <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

If I'm not mistaken, BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A's now come come with a snowflake rating. I thought I read that somewhere anyway. One more option for you to look at.

Usually with ice no tire is really good on it unless you have studs or chains on them. I think on ice the more tire on the surface the better.. I'll be running my Pro Comp Mud Terrains through the winter again. As you say they are great in snow, but a bit marbly on ice. This year I'll run them softer to give me a bit more grip, and of course adjust my driving accordingly. Don't pull out in front of me, I'm not stopping quick.

My bfg all terrain KO are doing great so far up here in northern Alberta. We had over a week of black ice on the roads then just for a huge dump of snow. My truck is completely different then the cooper sst I had on last winter.

if you are in Ontario i have almost brand new new studded set of 17" 275/65/17's for sale . I can't remember the name? But they are brand name tires . Not Chinese or Korean import b.s .
