Re: Flooding in Toronto
really wierd weather we are having now in general.... earlier we had a tornadoe touch down near Devon, Alberta - warnings again southeast of Calgary.... then we have the floods that devestated the city, on your way down to Montana - we drove by High River and the town is still underwater....

Re: Flooding in Toronto
I'm here on business right now - last night was ridiculous and I really wish I had my HUMMER with me. Streets were flooded, manhole covers were being blown off from the water pressure in the drainage system. Was something to see!

Re: Flooding in Toronto
Rhino was out and about as Kevin was on the last day of his vacation. We went out in assist mode and blocked off two blown manhole covers later we cruised Further on the Lakeshore Fun. Rhino had to crawl in sections as water was trying to cover the hood in the "Indy" track area on our second pass we had a Rogers minivan start smoking and catch fire we called 911 (5 minute wait ) and actually reported the fire to police and a High Rise Fire unit that stalled out (see Msn.ca photos of flood) and returned to scene to offer assistance . Fire pumper arrived and had to cut "Indy" fence to get equipement to High rise crew to put van out. The van was a total loss as equipement on board exploded. The Humber River had surpassed its control channel ( about 12' high) and had in places accually flooded the road surface. and a parking lot to the point 3 parked vehicles were up to their roofs ( near old mill drive) There are lots of trees down especially on hillsides. P.S. to Stampede people The Toronto Indy is the end of next week and its track was heavily flooded in fact some car team trucks were entering the grounds thru the flood.

Re: Flooding in Toronto
We've not lost power yet (city is experiencing rolling blackouts) just to the south and west of us is the area that has been out since the storm. Problem is that the main 2 power switching / transformer stations were flooded out one had 300,000 gallons of water pumped out.
The subway resumed full service at noon today section from Jane to Kipling was closed due to heavey flooding of tracks and stations.
The Humber is back in its channel but city has closed the parking lot as they do controlled releases from dams upstream (see Hurricane Hazel 1954 there's a book by Betty Kennedy ) no deaths yet better than 1954 when 89 died.
Our Walmart has reopenned on reduced power (Basement flooded taking parking and store's power with it) note to Calgary we have your thermal blankets in our store. WE are now awaiting the next punch.
If I can't respond its because Internet and wired phone both some what wonky.

Re: Flooding in Toronto
We got flooded a foot of water. Came up through the 3 drains in my basement. We were taking out buckets and buckets of water cause we didn't have power for a pump but it became a losing battle. At one point we just focused our efforts to getting the important stuff up stairs. Then around midnight the water started going back down the drain. There isn't any water now but the damage is done. Waiting for the insurance guy to show but they are pretty busy. One crazy and exhausting night. We got power back on tuesday at 2:00am, so we are one of the lucky ones.
