had this happen to me twice once under waranty second one had to pay for it asking for  reburst of the wiring harness which this one has failed ....same place same wire it melts and fuses the plastic together and the blowwer motor dies.....why does it take general motors all this time to fix this problem???? there should be a recall on the plastic fork in the transfer case that gets hot and deforms and causes the transfer case to destroys its self and takes out the front diff only on the 5.3 v8s?????they use same transfercase for the inline 5s which are in the 5.3s

I haven't had this problem yet, should I be taking it into a GM dealer anyway?

I am.  I replaced mine a few months ago and it is already discoloured.  

Had mine replaced this last winter on a -26 day, had to drive 65km to the dealer no heater, will go in to have it replace again on the recal and will keep this one for spare in case.

Problem is new revised wiring is not at dealers yet temporary fix is to restrict use of high or medium fan setting for prolonged  periods. If hot wire smell is noted immediately shut off fan and allow connection cool.
