Having said that, a synthetic winch cable set up with an eye in each end makes an excellent extension. A steel cable makes a terrible extension.

Good points Greg, I will have to be careful about not using recovery straps in conjunction with the synthetic line. I was thinking about getting a winch extension line as well, but hard to justify it when I barely use my winch as it is now. I do have some basic tow straps from PA that don't recoil though.

So combined I had like 3 hours of video but was able to get it down to 20mins lol....its nothing hardcore , just a nice day in the mountains and getting stuck lots lol . I cant believe how far that guy got in there with his truck and alone ..not very smart .

Awesome video! My truck looks so bad ass in at the 10 second mark <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... rgreen.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I was feeling kind of upset with my truck for getting stuck so much when we were rescuing that guy, but now that I see how much snow there is again it is CRAZY!!!

Never use kinetic straps with a winch...... You know, unless you have no choice.

Never use a roller fair lead with a synthetic winch line

- the best choice is an aluminum hawse fair lead, just like the one you bought.

What am I missing? We don't use recovery straps with a winch.... That would be stupid... Are you saying to not use synthetic winch cable?

Not following what you are saying... Also why the aluminum instead of the standard roller... Wouldn't that be easier on the lines?

... Still learning....

correct me if im wrong

but the reason you never want to use a kinetic recovery strap is due to the elasticity. winching with a rubber band????lol

tow strap if needed like we used on mr toyota

as far as i no there is a fairlead roller for synthetic winch line

not to sure as to why this is tho

anyone shed some light on this

but lets compair

synthetic or cable winch line

pros

-safty (if line breaks)

-lighter than cable

-stores less kinetic energy

-floats in water

-easier on hands/no barbs

-wont freeze or burn

cons

-not ment to hold weight- just recover a vehicle

-more expensive

- uv can cause unnessary wear and break down

-cannot leave wet or muddy/can break down fibers in line

Exactly, that would be stupid...

I tought there was something wrong with using synthetic winch cables, as I do plan on replacing the steel with synthetic as I want to cut the weight down as it looks like you were right with Rick.... Wasn't enough money in it for him on the fabrication so I think I'll just suck it up and wait until I have the money for the new bumper..

Never heard about a different fair lead so that good info and I'll definitely replace the one it comes within I go that route... I guess the roller could pinch on the ends eh, kinda makes sense now that I think about it....
