He was just following up on my comment about using straps instead of getting a longer line. It could be pretty disastrous if we used a recovery strap instead of a tow strap and it broke... kind of like what happens when you break those stretch ropes at the gym *Waaaahpisshhhh... SNAP*.



Also standard rollers can pinch and fray synthetic lines. There are some specialty rollers you can get, but an aluminum hawse is best.

-lighter than cable

-stores less kinetic energy

-floats in water

-easier on hands/no barbs

-wont freeze or burn



cons

-not ment to hold weight- just recover a vehicle

-more expensive

- uv can cause unnessary wear and break down

-cannot leave wet or muddy/can break down fibers in line

I really like the fact it won't come through my window if things go south and the line ever breaks, lol.

Sorry about the delay in response - I was at the Juno Awards in Ottawa.



Nick nailed it. However, if I HAD to use a kenetic strap attached to my winch cable to recover myself, I would.



Synthetic line is awesome in many ways, probably it's greatest weakness is that it's not abrasion resistant. It's greatest benefit is that it doesn't store energy like a steel cable does.



Right now I have a steel cable on my truck, and it'll stay there until the snow is gone. After that I'll take off the steel and wrap the synthetic line I already have onto the spool. I have 2 abrasion sleeves and a synthetic extension cable.



The reason I won't install it until after the snow is that my winch usually gets all iced up during the winter runs. So I hit it with sticks and boots to free the cable up. I don't feel that the synthetic is up to the abuse.

Oh for pete's sake.... I ordered the winchline from a buyer on Amazon in the evening, then formally cancelled it less than 20 minutes later with a polite message, as I found the exact same line for 60$ cheaper elsewhere. Got a message today "The buyer has now shipped your item!" <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ngHead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':banghead:' />

Luckily I got busy this afternoon with work and I didn't order the other one yet... I was about to when I got the e-mail they had ignored my request for cancellation and gone ahead and shipped it.



If you want one order from here, you have to call in as the web site doesn't work for Canadian orders. I sent them an e-mail and they told me just to call to get it.

3/8" line Strength = 17,600 lbs





In comparison, the Tuff-Stuff line which is a much larger 1/2" in dia. only does 16,000 lbs or so.
