Hi, I am just curious about the round knob that we have to turn in order to switch on the headlight on my 08 H2.

It seems that I cannot turn the knob to the off position.

When I turn the knob to the off position, it always goes back to the auto position.

Any thoughts ?

Not sure with an 08 but my 03 turn selector to left they go off turn it left again they go on. Turning to the right is the manual turn on for headlights.

Cheers

John

Also if all fails look at your owners manual very informative.

Your right John , the 03 has a" stelth mode"switch. The 2008 Canadian Hummer switch will only turn the lights off when the vehicle is in park.

Hope this helps

Actually mine was a US vehicle, and the thing is that when I turn the knob to the OFF position, and if I let the knob go, then it kinda spring back to the AUTO position.

The knob does not want to stay in the OFF position.

I am doing this with the transmission in the Park position and even the key is not in the ignition.

are you holding it in the off position for say..5 seconds or are you just releasing it ? try to hold it.

The thing with alot of US vehicles is they don't have DRL systems but it has to be there to pass Canadian inspection, so they muck with the light sensor to trick it into thinking its dark outside thus the headlamps always come on. Just a posibility.

Also, the switch is spring loaded

Thanks for the tip DCURR, I will try to hold the knob in the OFF position for a while...

The switch is spring loaded......that's why the knob always kinda jump back to the AUTO position.

Yes has spring back but you do not need to hold it do this at night time you will see how it works watch the light at the side of the switch as well.

My old H2 was a U.S model as well.

But as I had said earlier the manual is your best friend full of lots of info.

Cheers

John

You are correct John the manual is the first place to look for onfo on your vehicle. I was remembering back to my2008 Silverado with a simular switch and I had to hold it down briefly to get it to work.

My first post i was quoting from the Canadian GM Service Manual for the 2008 Hummer H2

Hi John thanks for the tip, I already read the manual but it didn't help me since the manual only said that turn the knob to the OFF position to turn off the lights. That make sense but the manual didn't solve it completely for me.

I think that it will be solved when I get together with the Hummer gang after the salt season is over.....

There is the possibility that your switch is defective!!
