Humvee 24 volt converters and motorized radio console
So I have been acquiring parts and putting together a functional and secure way to add some electrical devices to my Humvee and I hope still keep the authentic military look.
What it is, 3 ammunition cans and a Humvee surplus radio rack
What it does, 3 5A 24 to 12 volt converters, one for radio and future alarm and two more for misc. accessories. Backup camera, and I am thinking of adding lights and beeper, and maybe using spare video input for blind spot cameras.
When first test fitting it I tried a few configurations but the radio was either out of reach and hard to see or the ammo can lids could not be installed or removed. So a long story short, I have mounted it on a turntable which moves it from storage position to viewing position with a linear actuator.
Position 1, access to lids and space efficient but out of reach and hard to see the screen.
Position 2, good access to screen and controls but it wastes space and the ammo can covers can’t be installed or removed.
Backup camera just clears tailgate.
24 volt 100mm stroke linear actuator gives me 90 degrees of rotation.
Lazy Susan type bearing 10” diameter.
Backup camera input.
The guts...
I will try to attach a video...it’s erroring out on me now.

Re: Humvee 24 volt converters and motorized radio console
I hope this video works, now I just need to work on the cable management and get it into my Humvee.
Since the Humvee has two 12Volt batteries in series I set up two gauges and a switch to check them individually. Those are the two square voltmeters on the bottom left. The first round meter is 24 volt coming in and then I have a meter on each of the two accessory converters to make sure they are working and not overloaded.
Green switch bank is 24 volt, red switch bank is 12 volt controls.
I have a longer clip, but it won’t attach. It will now stop at 90 degrees on a limit switch and retract back to home position for storage....

A few more details, a fuse block so if something goes wrong I don’t let all of the smoke out of the circuit..
A sneak peak under the hood...
Covers in place are somewhat watertight and out of site...

Nice work. I have always wanted to design something with a 12volt actuator.
Very cool!

Re: Humvee 24 volt converters and motorized radio console
Thanks guys, I started out wanting something simple to mount on the radio rack. I was even looking to mount everything out in the open. But one thing led to another and here we are.
